After my ball joints were replaced, I decided to have my alignnment checked by a friend at a tire store. Check this out!

Notice how off the right tire was. Kind of scary. I wouldn't leave the dealer until you have them check the alignment.

wow Kendra! Just saw your post. I posted a question to Neal about that because after picking my car up yesterday, it drives horribly! I called the dealership today but no call back yet. I don't think alignment is part of the package however the guys at work were telling me that an alignment should always be done after the kind of work this entailed. What's up? I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for an alignment now.

My service told me that alignment wasn't necessary, but who knows what happens when work is done to the front end? I guess anything can happen.

I brought both our Kats in for the ball joint recall today. 1. Dealership extremely accomadating for appointment time setup. 2. Trained/ experienced Viper/Prowler tech. 3. Brought me into bay to observe work being done. 4. A four wheel alignment was done, after ball joints were replaced. The only drawback was that it was not included in the recall and cost $60 per each Kat. I was told even though it is recommended by DC it is not included. Indeed I had it done . I am not going to chance having premature tire ware. But I do feel that DC should include the alignment in the recall. Other than that, I have no other complaints. The service was excellent, a job well done. Goldsteins Chrysler in Latham New York.

I don't understand why you'd need an alignment ?? If they are just putting in lower ball joints nothing that has anything to do with alignment is messed with.
Had mine done today and it's fine..

I agree with this. If the ball joint procedure is followed there is no need or change to the vehicle alignment

I agree with the fact that replaceing the lower joint in no way will cause the alignment to change, to date we have done nine cats at our store, one of them has had a problem with the steering wheel being off center after the job was completed he called me on monday am and reported the problem and will bring the car in tomorrow to inspect I can only figure that the lock nut on the tire rod end must have been loose and somehow got turned a turn or two while the job was being done as 20 or so people were standing around watching while the job was being done at our tech session last saturday.

still changing the ball joint wont change the alignment

If alignment was off after ball joint replacement it was off before also.No way replacing ball joint would change alignment.

I got my kat back the wheel was off a bit, I called for alignment, told them about what happen they told me (PUTTING ON BALL JOINTS WITHOUT A ALIGNMENT IS LIKE BUYING TIRES AND NOT PUTTING AIR IN THEM).
