WOW Debbie! Now that's some MAJOR damage. I am lucky I have a post 99 vehicle. I paid the service manager a personal visit this morning & very nicely stated that this damage was totally unexceptable. He proceeded to tell me that it happens. I asked - "did it happen to the dealer's owners 2 prowlers & the service manager's prowler. His answer was no to both questions. He told me he couldn't warranty my "powder coated arms" ( they really are stock). He couldn't believe it because they were so clean. I asked him if he saw any dirt on the underside of the car when it was on the lift -"no". I asked - have I made my point? I have a new lower control arm due in Wednesday & you better believe I will eagle eye the entire installation. Thank you all for your support - without it, I probably would have weanied out. I had mine done after they were chromed, no scratches anywhere. I removed my knuckles after being chromed. Do not believe that scratches on the knuckles was unavoidable ! That is not true. I also read the entire recall sheet from Chrysler, there is a special C Clamp used to press the ball joints out and the new ones in. The only contact it makes with the A Arm is just around the ball joint. It would not cause the damage in these pictures posted. The knuckle damage was caused by using power tools to remove the nuts. Mine are chrome plated, I removed them myself while being careful, not a scratch... This message has been edited by KatAddict on 04-21-2003 at 07:53 PM |

I beleive the marks on these pics are from air tools to remove the nuts.

I had this damage done to mine but did not sweat it too much since I plan on polishing them. My dealership also did not use the tool Andy R posted |

Hey Debbie, I saw how they removed my ball joints and I just don't see why your dealer banged around that far off your ball joint. THAT IS PRETTY BAD!! |

Your comment in the post above only serves to reinforce my suspicion that the dealers causing damage are the ones not using the correct tool for the ball joint pressing (in and out) job. The scuff on the inside of your knuckle looks like marks from the movement of a 1/2" air impact resting against it while the tech was using it to take the nut off your ball joint. |

Steve - I believe the dealership is putting you in stall 88,,,,,and they only have 87 stalls. You personally need to get ahold of the district zone rep and present your case to them!!! Get pictures and write down how it all went down and what was said to you after the recall when picking up your cat. Make a appointment to meet with them at the dealership and be ready to take a stand and go eye to eye with the district rep. |

Chances are, if you have a district manager, he has a district to manage. Try calling another nearby dealer and ask for his number from them. |

I have black paint stripes on the lower A-arm from the brake caliper. When the mechanic was hammering on the A-arm, the brake caliper was resting on the A-arm with no towel or shop rag between the parts. The blows from the hammer on the ball joint caused the brake caliper to bounce up and down and transferred paint to the A-arm. I watched the whole repair myself, but my mechanic did the best he could and he tried to do what he thought was right. This is what can happen whenever any car is brought in for repairs at any shop. Just hope for the best. The steering knuckle was completely removed on my car and there wasn't any special tool needed, just remove the upper and lower ball joint nuts, and remove the steering knuckle. |

hi,ac-idive,you are right, because thats what the chrysler rep told me,but the dealership would not give me any info,he called me yesterday to tell me the dist-man was not available until next week, and also asked me what i expected to be done,i told him either they polish the knuckles or replace with new,to which he replied the damage was unavoidable again,i nearly blew up,but just let him know that i have a lot of paperwork and owners that will say thats not so,so we will see,but i will call another dealer to see if i can get the d,ms number, thanks everyone steve. |
