After reading all the complaints about A-Arms that are tore up, I decided to contact my dealer to inform him I will not bring the vehicle in for the repairs. I'll give him my VIN and take my new ball joints with me. If I have a problem I'll install them when the time comes. Down here in Texas, especially where I live, we have cobblers not technicians.

Duane - Just my opinion, but I still believe the people having problems are in the minority. Explaining your concerns to the service manager should go a long way to them being extra careful after they learn of potential problems. The thought of the ball joint breaking and the damage that would cause makes me willing to take the car in for the repair. Maybe my experience with having the proper spark plugs for my nitrous engine sitting in my trailer instead of my engine and now spending thousands of $$$$$$ on an engine rebuild has a bearing on my thinking.

I'm starting to think the same way. My dealer has yet to get the parts for mine, so I have some time to contemplate it. I think I will insist that they let me watch, or give me the joints and let me borrow the tool.

A service dept who cares about owner's concerns will "bend the rules" a bit and let you in the garage while work is being done. The big trick is not to come off as a pain in the arse or a know-it all....It's a fine line we walk...

I'm holding off right now - the dealer is still waiting for parts. But I don't think I'm in such a hurry anymore. I think I just want to stand back and see what is happening with this before I take mine in for the service work. To call me anal about my vehicles is an understatement!------------------ 2001 Mulholland Edition Prowler 2001 King Ranch Edition Ford F-150

PEOPLE~~~BE REASONABLE!!!! I have a 2001 Mulholland with 3600 miles and has never been driven in the rain. When I had my ball joints replaced ,the bottom one on the drivers side was dry and had very little grease in it. I didn't realize the steering was as stiff as it was until they were replaced. A few more miles and severe damage could have ocurred. No damage was done to my car when the work was done, but if the arms were scratched a little -so what-. That would be nothing compaired to the damage caused by the bad ball joint. I know we are all very proud of our KATS ,and I am just as particular as the rest of you.PLEASE GET THE BALL JOINTS REPLACED. You may not have a KAT tomorrow!!!!

Don't get me wrong - I do intend to get mine replaced - I just don't want to be one of the first for my dealership! I want them to get a little practice first - until then, I'll sit back and gather a little more information on the process.------------------ 2001 Mulholland Edition Prowler 2001 King Ranch Edition Ford F-150

Duane, Give it a second thought. I can't wait to get it done. My steering is getting tighter and I have to turn the wheel back to center. When the dealer gets it act together mine will be done!

Eddie well said. I would like to add that there is not only the potential for serious damage to the car, but also the occupants. For example if the wheel fell off at speed. As someone who has lost a Son-In-Law recently due to an automoble accident, I am more concerned about mine and my loved ones safety first and foremost. The car can be replaced or repaired. As many have pointed out there are many low miles cars available. But my Daughter and Grandchildren will never see her Husband and thier Father on this earth again. He can't be replaced.

Mine was first kat for recall and I was told to pick next day since I was late bring car in,ok.Next day I was told not ready because mechanic didn't feel torque spec. on instructions were correct and he did not want to cause another problem by over torquing.I waited extra 2 days for chrys.to get back with diff.torque spec.I'm just happy to have it done right. They also said the new spec.will be on instructions, thanks to this mechanic.Idon't know about ones torqued to 90 ft.lbs at other dealer before.

This is exactly what I stated in another post. "A good mechanic should have spotted the incorrect torque spec and questioned it." Congrats to you Gene and your mechanic. It sounds like he's one of the good ones. Just because something is printed people seem to always feel that is the correct information. This is not always so and this is why it's best to deal with an experienced mechanic and or dealer.

Prowler folks, I couldn't agree with you more, safety is the priority.TL - I like your approach. Being in the automotive business myself, I've looked at the pics and find it hard to believe the "correct" tool has done this damage. What would you expect the service manager to say - I don't have the right tools. Here in Texas you have to attend 1150 hours of school to cut hair. The only requirement in Texas to work on a car is to show up for work. The is no certification requirements. I'm waiting.

OK, I picked the same dealership Steve Bingham used, the one in Brenham. They have done several of the recalls already with no problems and finished Steve's yesterday.Mine was supposed to go in today at 7:00am, but due to all the rain we had this morning, the first rain we have had in weeks, I postponed until maybe tomorrow. (We all know Kats don't like their feet to get wet!) I have taken William Gallagher's advice on the Morse Ceramic Brake Pads, and are having them installed also. I'm also going to have them look at my peeling rims, let's hope that gets taken care of too. Now all I need is a delivery date on my new trailer, and I should be all set! ------------------ 2001 Mulholland Edition Prowler 2001 King Ranch Edition Ford F-150

Recall is now complete, and there were no problems at all. After bringing it out of the shop, they did have to take it back and adjust the fenders again, but Apple Dodge Service Dept did a great job. They also installed my Ceramic Brake Pads, and have ordered me FOUR new rims! The Service Manager said mine looked really bad!Glad that's out of the way! ------------------ 2001 Mulholland Edition Prowler 2001 King Ranch Edition Ford F-150

Apple is on US 290 in Brenham. Yeah, my wheels were getting real bad. Steve wouldn't even follow me to the Seabrook/Galveston event last Saturday because he was afraid of all the flakes of chrome flying off my rims and pitting his windshield! (ok, maybe not that bad!)If you haven't done yours yet, call Brad at 979-836-4425, he may still have some kits in stock, and repaired mine while I waited. I'm very satisfied with their work. See ya Bossier in Bryan, I found a new dealership! ------------------ 2001 Mulholland Edition Prowler 2001 King Ranch Edition Ford F-150
