* 99... with 12K miles......old ball joints were fine...showed no problems at all... * 2000...with 25K miles....rubber boots were fine, but nylon sleve at the bottom was extremely shredded and distorted.... *2001...with only 2100 miles....boots were torn in two on both sides....the car was in bad need with hardly any miles..... was told the original ball joints were made/supplied by TRW ..... |

Brought this up to an individual while in Detroit last week ... is there any "tracking" being done against specific year of Kat and actual ball joint problems. From this one post, one could say that '01's and up are suspect while '99's and older are not. Anyone have thoughts to collecting the data and putting on the board some place? |

I really don't think there's anything like that to it. I have seen posts of cars with lots of miles having problems to cars with very low miles having problems, so mileage isn't a factor. And all year models have had problems, but not every '01 has problems *for example* so its not a year thing either. My '97 with 6000 miles had a problem... now, my '97 with 6800 miles has post recall problems *L*. Maybe it would boil down to what hour and day of the week the ball joints were made. Its been said that the best car you can buy is one made on wednesday before noon. Maybe the same could be said about ball joints. Maybe the same could be said about when you get your recall work performed. Just something to think about... |

I have a '97 and when they did the work (albeit very poorly), it was discovered that the boot was exposed (I don't remember the exact terminology) on driver's side so eventually I would have had a problem with water getting in, rust, etc.

Gary C ....Goodwin Dodge(oldest auto dealer in Indiana)...New Castle....about 45 minutes from Nobletucky ....the mechanic(not a Prowler Tech) was EXTREMELY CAREFULL regarding the cars....my buddies '99 and my '01 were done one after the other...no center cap problems etc ...he was really carefull....my '01 orange(Plymouth), which has 25K miles, driven in snow, salt, sand etc etc for 2 winters, and sits outside 99 percent of the time was in FAR better shape than the 2001 Mulholland with 2100 miles that has never been out of a heated garage.uh:...the '99 also has had a rather easy life and the ball joints were near perfect ... |
