OK, I finally had my ball joints done at Earnhadt's Chrylser in Tempe. Alan Clark was my service advisor - the same gentleman that MadMax was dealing with. I told Alan that I wanted the work done under the MadMax Plan, but he was nice to me anyway.
Although I had worries about having it done, especially since hearing about the hatchet job on CatWoman's car, I was pleased that everything went well. I took close up pics of the control arms, fenders, wheels, steering knuckles and nose the day before - just in case - but didn't need them. In fact, I think the control arms were actually CLEANER after they were done! I also printed a "Ball Joint Recall Service Pre Inspection" form to be signed by the service adisor - if anyone wants this let me know. My only complaint is that it took all day - after Alan originally told me it would be about a half day. Overall, I give them about a 7 on the Stiffy Meter.

I would like to ask why you would only give the a 7 score, sorta sounds to me like they gave you a vip treatment to take extra care of your car if you get a survey from the factory and you score them with a seven instead of a ten you just dumped them in the toilet in the eyes of dc so now there csi scores drop, in case you dont know the tech, writer and the store all suffer from a bad survey.

sorry about going off on that but i work for a chrysler dealership and csi is my life blood and also controls a protion of most of our income

Could I get that form also? My dealership called me yesterday & said the Balls were in to do the recall work. I asked him about the special tool to use that didn't come with the Prowler tool kit. He said he didn't need a special tool.
Does anybody know the name & part # of the tool? I'd like to make sure he has it before I schedule my Kat in.
Thanks in advance!

Note that the rating I gave Earnhardt's was a 7 on the Stiffy-Meter. The Stiffy-Meter is a purely non-scientific and absolutely subjective measure of how big a Stiffy I experience in a given situation. Earnhardt's rated a 7 on the Stiffy-Meter becasue the work took longer than expected - a lot longer when you consider that Chrysler compenstaes the dealer for 1.3 hours for this recall work. A 7 is roughly a "B". If they would have donw it in 2 hours, they'd get a 9.3 on the Stiffy-Meter. The Stiffy-Meter has not yet registered a 10, but I keep looking...

ETMIDZT -

I'll send you the Pre-Inspection doc - what's your email?
Also, I'd be suspicious if the dealer's saying he doesn't need any special tools...

If they say they don't need any special tools, go elsewhere. JMO. It might be a good idea to ask if they have the prowler tool kit too. Some dealers seem to have "lost" theirs. This is one recall that you want to have done right. Try another dealership. The special tool is called a ball joint press. It is Special Tool C-4212. Larry Lord can tell you, I think, if that is the part number or not, and if any other parts (tools) come with it.
