Have read the post on concerns of possible damage to the spindles from over tightened upper ball joints. I will agree it is something to be worried about as far as possible spindle damage. As far as I am concerened, I am more worried about the damage done to the upper ball jt itself from the over tightening. 30ft lbs over spec in my opinion can not help but to due damage to the Nut and the jt stud. It has to weaken the jt stud & nut. My point is, every one is concerned about the spindle and forgetting the upper jt may be the part that has the most damage. Ask anyone that builds race engines what over tighten rod bolts will do. In my opinion the upper jts should be replaced for safety if they over tightened!! Willard SEPA 2000 Yellow

good point Willard. Maybe Larry Lord or Neal (our Prowler tech) can jump in with an opinion on your concerns?

I can only relate what I was told when I brought that point up to my serv manager. he said the nut has a plastic crush zone or something like that and he only backed the bolt out 1/4 inch and retorqued. he is confident no damage occurred to the nut or spindle. That's all I can go by.....

I asked my uncle about this very thing as mine were actually undertorqued. He and his son have raced and collected since '56. He has done ALL the work on ALL his cars over the years. Here is his response: As far as the nut thing goes, if undertighten, no problem, just torque correctly. If overtightened, You may have a problem, as many fasteners are torqued to streach a certain amount. If overstreached or if the fastener is a torque to yield type, the fastener is weakened, and will need replacement. I would recommend talking to the tech people at ARP (arp-bolts.com) if you have fastener questions. I hope this will help get us some answers. Let us know what you find out.
