I finally got the recall behind me. After waiting 3 months for the tools to come in, the ball joint recall is finished. I had it done at Westborn Chrysler/Jeep in Dearborn, MI. I bought the car there, so I decided to stick with them for the recall.I actually had (3) recalls done at the same time. They included the balljoints, Frame Weld Inspection (recall #774), and the Fuel Rail O-Ring Replace (recall #790).
Got the car there at 8:00am and got it back at 7:30pm. The work was done with great care by their Prowler Tech, who went to great lengths to make sure that nothing got damaged. Before he started, I spent about 10 minutes with him to take him through the entire process (with pictures provided by forum), just to make sure that he knew what to watch out for. They also allowed me to observe, which I tried to minimize so as to not to make the guy nervous. The tech was extremely careful, to the extent that he wrapped the lower control arm with several layers of masking tape all around the joint to make sure it wouldn't be scratched.
The balljoint recall took him about 6 hours and the other two recalls took him another 4 hours. A close inspection on completion revealed absolutely no marks of any kind anywhere. I am so relieved that it's over, even if it did take a little longer than I expected. I highly recommend this dealership for anyone else in southeastern Michigan, who has not yet had it done. Mine was the first one they had done, so now they have experience.
Driving the car home, everything felt fine. It tracked true, and if anything, it felt a little smoother. I am happy, happy, happy.
