I just received my balljoint recall notice from Chrysler. I know this is old news to many of you and I have been reading about some of the problems encountered when the work was done. My question is what do I watch out for? I have heard about scratches and cracked hubcaps. Are there other problems that are common? I just want to be prepared when I take my Prowler in. Thanks in advance for your help!

AirHead - check with your local dealer and see if they have done any recalls on the Prowler lower ball joints, and if so, did they have any problems. Find a dealer who has done several, as they should be experienced by now. JMO

After all that, take your center caps off before you go to the dealer, that way you know if they are broken before hand.

What is the best way to remove the center caps?

Take apart a wooden clothes pin and use the one side to remove the center caps. You can also use a small screwdriver wrapped in a towel. Once you get it started, work your way around carefully. When putting it back on, be careful to keep your fingers free. When they get hungry, they can take a nasty bite.

I will expand on that, a little. Use half of a wooden clothes pin that has a spring on it, holding it together. Use the flat part. There is a small slot in the cap, don't twist the clothes pin.
When putting them back on, put a little dish detergent or something similar on the tabs to help lubricate them. Something you can easily wash off.

I would have the tech remove them, tell him you want to see them before there reinstalled. The way I see it is if you remove the cap and damage a tab you should pay for the replacement, if the tech damages the cap the dealer will need to pay. Look for a dealer that has already done this recall, I went to a dealer an 1 1/2 hours away because the dealers near me are worthless. Check all the post you can on this recall before taking your Kat in, good luck.
