Fatmaninthetub says there is supposed to be a crate motor option for the Prowler in the New Brochure, WOW. If this is true I am going to rethink the Paxton deal. Wonder what they are going to do about the cooling problem? CJ, when you read this could you please do some homework on this subject. ------------------ |

I sure don't want to put any water on the 360 fire, but I have looked at my 2001 brouchure and find not a word about any V-8 option |

Of course maybe there's a 2nd edition 2001 brouchure?????? A mid year option change????? But it seems like someone would have heard a leak or two before the fact. |

The 2001 brochures states, "From the get-go......For example, the level of creature comfort and standard equipment we had envisioned meant a large cockpit(for a rod), roughly a third of the frame's length, which for all practical purposes eliminated that old favorite, the ludicrously low-tech iron block V8. In a way, that was a shame, because if any carmaker anywhere produces superb elephant engines, we do with our vast experience in huge-displacement HEMI* and wedge engines (not to mention our equally respected, high-revving 360* cubic-inch smallblock V8). Once that decision was made, however, things began to fall into place. Under development at the time, was our superb, all-aluminum, fuel-injected, single overhead cam, 24-valve, 3.5-liter V6...... The asterisk * note reads: Available in crates over Mopar parts counters. I was not able to find anywhere in the brochure any reference to a conversion kit for Prowler. The reference was that Hemi and 360 crate motors are available. Moving from a crate motor to a 50 states legal conversion is an entirely different matter. Sorry, guys!! |

Hey now......I had read a thread on one of these sites saying there is a ad or something stating a 360 with a * below saying Crate Only. Looks like whatever CJ posted sounds very simular to what the thread stated. Where did this come from CJ? Anyway, isn't there someone at DC that knows the answer to this all important question??? Post the phone number and I will call if anyone knows. |

I could forsee DC putting the 360 v-8 in the 2002 Chrysler Prowler. Kind of a acceptable way to promote the name cross-over change (The ALL new Chrysler Prowler), now available with high reving V-8 power! And a way to entice us to sell our cats and buy new ones. Marketing = getting the customer to buy what you want to sell them! Ya all come back now! ------------------ |

I posed this question to a an Engineer at D/C that I have been corresponding with on AOL. He works on the Prowler. Here is his response: "There are no plans for a 360 Prowler as original equipment or any other. If someone besides Mother Mopar is working on a package, good luck ! I hope it works. BUT, keep in mind all the wonderful vehicle dynamics like handling and braking will be messed up by the much heavier V-8, and that the 360 had better belt out at least the 250 horsepower the factory V-6 puts out. The weak link is still the transmission when you put that much engine output. At least this is my opinion." |

When I worked the Prowler display that my company did for DC, the most recurring question was, "Are they ever going to put in a V8?" The answer I was always given by the engineers was "No, because with the V6, the trans was already at it's torque capacity and it couldn't handle a bigger engine." |

quote: It's not a trick or a joke. I mentioned it about 2 months ago after I saw it in a Prowler (yes, Prowler) brochure I bought on the net. Didn't say it was an option, it was talking about Mopar performance and said this was available only in crate form. |

If the trans is already at its peak, why doesn't it spit its guts with the Paxton, or nitrous? I'm sure there is a pretty big safety margin built in. Seems like I read a post about somebody neutral dropping the car a while back. The trans couldn't take much of this if it was at it's limits. |

Butchee - Just relaying what I was told. Can't tell you why with re: to Paxton, etc. But my guess is that any modifications are at your own risk and not covered under warranty by DC, also. |

CJ-understood-And no jab at you! The same trans moves a much heavier car (Chrysler line), and has to hold up-so with the lighter load of the Prowler, one would think there would be more longevity-of course we drive the car harder-which will bring me to a new post topic!! |

Butchee - Bob is sitting in the background watching, listening and waiting to see who is going to be the first to puke the transaxel all over the highway! He has calls in to Paxton, Hennessey, and SoCal Speed Shop to let him know when, not if, the transaxel breaks! So far so good.......... |
