It's the proverbial gilding the lilly. In the 50's in LA it would have been called taco wagon style, but today no classy Latino lowrider would have anything like that on it. Cultures change but the appearance of the essence of car is always the same. |

Hey Donnie, you mean you would approve of a chrome chain steering wheel instead Pass the hot sauce please. This message has been edited by butchcee on 11-18-2001 at 05:22 PM |

Thanks, Butchee-- It was a So Cal favorite, a cool mod, but not on our Kat. That was about 8 years past my LA experience, counting 2 ex wives and bunch of child support. A chrome chain steering wheel said a lot about a lot of people, but it was not my thing. It would be great to hear whatever anybody knows about that particular mod--it was like any customizing thing you did to your car--it said who you are, where you have been and what you think. Anyone who knows about chrome chain steering wheels. please say what you think! |

Al, still got the bikes so far, but they are in MAJOR hock I need to start making some serious cash and soon to save them and the Prowler's... easy enough, but lack of serious cash to make serious cash is my problem. I thought coming here to Texas would allow me to do this, but the financing they have avaliable here stiffles my sales rather severely, and the cash I should be making is not materializing. I am probably going to go back to LA rather soon, maybe today. The chain steering wheel bit is reminiscent of people being proud to drive lowriders, gang fights and wearing county jail shirts, from what I have seen of the owners... to each their own. |

Donnie, the chrome steering wheel was a jab at use of "classy" and "lowrider" in the same sentence. Maybe if they were leather covered? Some of the latest lowrider schemes are wild for those that have not seen them. Very imaginative. Todd, I didn't know you had moved to Texas already. A big decision for you to pick up and leave house and business. Hope it all works out for you. The economy seems to be picking up and those that didn't lose their shirts will start spending again. Hang in there. |

Butchee-- I guess I've been all over the place cross-culturally speaking, and class just depends. In '58 I had a powder blue '54 Olds 98 convertible that was about 4" off the ground not counting the weed-sprayer exhaust that sometimes had to be bent back into place. In those days my friends and I knew how to hot wire almost anything older than '58. ------------------ |

Saw a yellow prowler, a dream car rental, at Hoover dam over SEMA with center caps like that. Looked better on the yellow. Teather thought they looked better on a moving car rather than parked. ------------------ |
