Yes, the sensors are mounted on the frame. The bumpers are mounted on the frame. The bumpers are designed for low speed impact, but serve to transmit impact into the frame much earlier than a vehicle without the bumpers, depending on where it is hit. Without the bumpers, I would personally be very concerned about an offset frontal impact where the only thing to take the impact would be the front suspension making the signal to the airbag sensor late.

Just my own opinion!

Well with three of them, why dont you take front off one, take rear off the other and leave one stock and show us some pictures of all three when you are done.

Damn, Mr Chrome ... your post sounds awfully familiar ... but I bet there will be an excuse as to why that won't be the path she chooses ... as usual.

Dear Sassy Mamma,
There are many fantastic bumper fill kits out there (TGF, Carlini, Real Rod, Mills, etc)to select from.
Due to a shortage of cash we never got around to pulling our stock bumpers for three years. But in December 2001 we came up with our own, inovative bumper fill kit. Our kit still provides that classic "look" and is priced for "Prowlers" who are cost sensitive.
If cost is a consideration I suggest the Jack and Chromer bumper fill kit.
Our kit consists of:
(2) plastic tie-wraps- to attach the turn indicators and harnesses from the original bumpers onto the grill.
(2) 6"X6" sections of black pipe wrap tape
We are pleased to announce we have AGAIN lowered the price on the Jack and Chromer bumper fill kit to the amazingly low price of $6.95 plus $1.95 shipping and handling.

My car is a daily driver so I will leave mine on. I have been bumped 3 times from behind in my Vette in the last 2 years. They were minor taps with no damage, but with a Kat w/o bumpers.... there would have been three accidents! To many old folks on the road here in FL...

I guess I will my add my opinion here also. As far as looks go, I think it is strictly a matter of personal taste. To me having the bumpers removed is more in keeping with the hot rod look our cars were designed to emulate.

From a safety standpoint: Our insurance agent had no problems with covering the car without bumpers. There are many street rods with no front bumpers. The air bag sensor is still intact. My thinking in case of an accident is that in a low speed impact, replacing a (or both)bumpers is probably just as expensive as buying a grill. At high speed - it is going to be way over my deductible and I really don't think the bumpers will really make that much difference.

My personal preference is off. I took the front and the back off my red. I was reared ended in the red one and very little damage was done. Not even noticeable. On my blue I took the front off and left the back on. The blue is my wife's car and she likes the rear on. The Kat looks great anyway you prefer.

I am ahead of Real Rod chrome bumpers, I took mine off and put chrome bumpers on over a year ago. Look up history to see them. Working still on chrome rear bumpers. I also have chrome tail lights, no pictures to post, look good to me.

JMO....I love the look of the car...but the bumpers just do not fit the style....I told my wife I wanted to remove them but she said no...well after seeling Tom Mills car at a cruise in, in KOKOMO she said ....WE HAVE TO HAVE A SET LIKE THOSE.....I ask my insurance agent and he said no problem since it was a customized car

I have seen all the others and have not seen any others that the turnsignal/parking lights work correctly except for Tom's kit.

Leave the rear on, paint them gloss black or IF TOM EVER GETS HIS REAR PANEL MADE...maybe take them off too.

HURRY UP TOM!!!!!!

Take your time Tom and make sure your rear pan accommodates the hitch.

I don't see what the big deal is. Either you like the with-Bumper look or you don't.You bought the car for YOU, so now YOU make the decision on or off!
