Why doesn't POA charge a small fee per year to be a member? $25?? I think it wouldn't break anyones bank!!Do you realise what it cost to take the family to a baseball or basketball game. $25 is nothing (dinner for 4 at MCDONALDS) ------------------ |

Well, maybe I can answer this, he wants to keep the site free, the donations are just that, so far it has worked flawlessly. There were many lessons learned from a past experience to be charged for posting rights and Mike didn't want to charged a penny. The way I see it, it's better to donate and feel good about it,, verses having to ante up. Having Star/Stars or no stars doesn't change my feelings towards anybody and the starless people shouldn't feel badly, so please everyone enjoy the Finest of Sites on the Internet. As long as this site breaks even, Mike would be a happy camper. Thanks for your thoughts,. ------------------ Prowler Products by GaryE, formally Carlini |

Having Star/Stars or no stars doesn't change my feelings towards anybody and the starless people shouldn't feel badly, so please everyone enjoy the Finest of Sites on the Internet. As long as this site breaks even, Mike would be a happy camper. Gary C I know we had this discussion before last year and I still fill the same way about the Stars. I surf this site 5 or more times a day, I post when I feel the urge, but maybe it's just me and stars. I don't think we need to know who has paid or not by Stars, If you want to post you pay the $25 per year and that's it, then you have everyone being equal. I know the Stars are not suppose to signify that I am any different then the next person but it does. One of the threads sometime ago had a comment in it about someone who didn't have a Star and was posting. It's not the money because if I can afford the car and the extra little upgrades (LOL) I can afford the donation. It's the Stars and my problem that holds me back. If I could send in my money and not get a Star I would so is that possible. This is a question I have been waiting to talk to Mike about during the Cruise in Feb. but I guess now is as good a time as ever. |

I'm with Brian. As I said last year, I feel the stars tend to classify people. Some people give money, some give time and other people give just by being here. I am not opposed to paying dues but I feel that the stars are not in the best interest of the website. This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 01-23-2003 at 10:40 PM |

I don't feel that the stars are necessary. I do feel that everyone should give what they are comfortable with monetarily and that there shouldn't be any specific dues. We've done very well with voluntary donations and I am sure we will continue to do so. |

If anyone would like to donate and NOT receive a star all you have to do is put the request in the PayPal message area along with your user name or put a note on your check. We try to please everyone! |

Brian/Larry, I agree with you guys. I don't have any problem with contributing to this site because I think it's great (and I will) However, I also think the stars are separating people into groups and I think that's wrong...........since I didn't contribute an undefined amount last year and if I contribute an undefined amount this year does that mean I'll only get one star or will I get two? Does it depend on how much you donate? This message has been edited by blackcat on 01-24-2003 at 01:37 AM |

When you donate any amount you get a star, $5.00 to $1,000.00 it's one star and one star per calendar year. I don't think it separates us into groups, it only shows that the person is a willing monetary supporter of the site. While everyone contributes with their posting and personalities, it's great that so many step up to the plate and help pay the bills. I hope to have an accounting of last years financial activity and a budget for this year in the next few weeks. |

Judy, OK I understand the concept but since I didn't contribute last year and I will this year does that mean that I'll only get one star regardless of how much I contribute? I'm not trying to be difficult but maybe you should only give one star to anyone who contributes regardless of when or how many times or how much....... |

Maybe I'm not making my point very well here..as I said I do plan to contribute. However regardless of how much I contribute whether its $5 or $1,000 since I didn't contribute last year I still only get one star from the teacher!!!!! This makes no sense and I don't think that it should be part of what's going on here or what people think of the post that you make. As Larry, CJ, and Brain have said we think it makes a difference! |

I too don't agree with the stars. As I explained to Gary not long ago some of us (myself included) donate our own bandwidth and disk space for all my graphics which is the real killer for websites. These people are donating as much as anyone else (IMHO) yet get no star. (I put my own star on my banner to make me feel better :{> ). I'm not mad, just don't agree. My 2cents... I think the stars are a good reminder to support the site? Hey..I got it ...the people who already have stars and now don't think they are a good idea..can give 'em away to those who want to catch up on stars...or..they could raffle their stars off and donate the proceeds to the "Jack Retirement Fund" ?? Chromer has a good point! (except for his retirement plan...) The stars are a great way of reminding people that this site depends on contributions. (I sent my check out yesterday). Yes, there is another site that is a mandatory $20 to join. I have not joined that site, the mandatory fee being one of the reasons. It is a much better feeling to contribute from the heart as opposed to having to ante up just to play..... |

quote: Maybe I should have made myself a little clearer. If you go back and read my first reply, I said I didn't think they were necessary. If I may elaborate a bit on that... if the Krehels had chosen not to give everyone stars for contributing, that would have been fine with me. If they choose to give you a star for contributing monetarily, that's okay with me too. As Judy said, whether you give a $1.00 or $1,000, they post a star. I don't know what the answer to all of this should be. However, please remember that running this site costs money. We've had a free ride for a long time now and I don't think that anyone objects to helping maintain this site. I feel that the voluntary donations are better than mandatory dues, again contributing whatever amount you feel comfortable with! |

last year I sent a donation to support POA that I felt I could do based on the number of people useing this site that might help out the star was a way of showing that I was a supporter and is a thank you for your help from the POA, now that I see two stars on some posts I am aware that a year has past (so fast) and it is time to join in again. so the stars to me are a way of each of us reaching out to others as a reminder that a year has past without a plea or billing for donations its time to cough up a buck or two to help keep the site up for us to enjoy for the next year. star or no star wont make a differance except to you no one else will judge you either way (I would hope) its all about the PROWLER. The underlying problem as I see it is that in a group of people the size of POA you will have all sorts of opinions on a variety of subjects. That is also one of the very things that makes this website so great. I can understand the various viewpoints, some people believe the stars set up a "class system", some had mentioned they would like colored stars depending on the amount of donation, some want no stars, some prefer one star only, some think the multi stars remind people it is a new year, some have no problem with annual dues, other despise that idea, etc. I think Mike & Judy have done a good job of looking at all the input and coming up with a system that is acceptable to most people. As CJ posted - this site has been a freebie to a lot of us for a long time. It's time for everyone to step up. If you feel you get value from it contribute, simple as that. Also, I would hope we can eliminate the posting of any future posts that refer to the stars or lack thereof altogether. That said - Judy, did you get my check I mailed yesterday yet. I want my second star! Marty ------------------ This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 01-24-2003 at 12:16 PM |

Would it make a difference if the star from last year was gold but this year it was different color. The people who just started posting this month would never have last year's gold star but if they sent in a contribution, they would get the new color star. Just an idea. I don't know if it would solve a problem or create one. |
