OK, The CoolMobile is about to come off warranty, so I thought I'd better start shopping for an extended warranty. WarrantyGold quoted me $2793 for the Diamond Plan 7/70,000 with 0 deductible - that price included the "Prowler Club Discount" whatever that is. Is saw a similar plan (7/50,000/0) with Chrysler for about $1800. Does anyone have any advice on finding a better deal? |

Last year I called Causeway Chrysler in Covington, Louisiana and bought a 4 year/100,000 mile (I drive a lot) $100 deductible MaxCare plan for under $1400.00 ------------------ |

I purchased the same plan from Warranty Gold last year for 1,529.00 !!!!! I have the 7/70, zero deductable. Purchased 3/12/02 with 26,000 miles on my 1999. They move on the price quoted but 2,700.00 is ridiculous! My sales rep was Louis Mitchell. I also got 10 months to pay with no interest. ------------------ |

Ken - I saw your post from last year and mentioned your price to the WarrantyGold dude. He said that the price for Prowler warranties went up Jan 1, 2003 - apparently they'd been taking some losses on those $1500 Prowler Warranties! Thanks for the info though. I'm gonna keep shopping - the $1800 deal from Mopar looks good after $2793! |

Curt - go with Causeway Chrysler in La. Give them a call and mention Laddie's name and the POA (hope they don't hang up on you, lol) I'd think the 50,000 or 75,000 mile plan with either $0,,,$50,,, deductible would work for you. JMO |

I had a great experience with Causeway Chrysler and Laddies contact. The contact has changed, but Causeway has been with us on warranty pricing since the beginning and has earned a shot at a quote that you are likely to find unbeatable. Laddie recently posted the new contact name at Causeway but I can't remember it! |

I have a '97. Purchased Jan. 5, 1998. Took the original 3yr/36K warranty since I didn't plan on alot of driving. It now has about 6800 miles on it. Am I out of luck on getting an extended warranty? |

My company is in the extended warranty business, primarily for exotic vehicles. www.exoticwarranty.com Anyone who is interested in a Prowler warranty, find your lowest quote from a dealer and I will match that minus 10%. Our coverage is bumper to bumper. This offer is open to any POA members who want it! Even if you are out of factory warranty with any amount of miles the plans are still valid. As a service provider, I advise ALL owners to invest the extra money in the purchase of a Chrysler Service Contract as opposed to an aftermarket extended warranty. The reasons are obvious if you think about it. Aftermarket warranties are provided by insurance companies. As such, there are rules and procedures that need to be followed to have a claim paid in full and in a timely manner. When a customer comes into my dealership with a concern, the first thing we need to do is diagnose the cause and contact the warranty company for authorization (permission) to repair the vehicle. If the claim amount goes over a preset dollar amount, the warranty company has the option of dispatching a contracted inspector to verify the concern and diagnosis. This inspection delay can be up to 48 hours, during which no work can be performed on the vehicle and the warranty company is not required to provide alternative transportation for the owner (although most do). After repair authorization is given, the vehicle is repaired and the claim is faxed in to the warranty company for payment (usually a return fax credit card charge). This can delay the pickup of the vehicle up to an additional day waiting for payment. Finally, the dealer is at the mercy of the warranty company to approve or decline any repairs needed. The Chrysler Service Contract is different because the decision rests with Chrysler (via an online and immediate claims system) and there is never the need for independent verification because the dealer IS the representative for Chrysler. Billing is done immediately just as if it were a factory warranty repair. Any repairs performed under the Chrysler Service Contract carry a nationwide warranty at ANY Chrysler dealer. Imagine having repair work performed at an independently owned Goodyear service center and then being told by your extended warranty company that you have to return to that same service center for any followup repairs if you have problems six months later. What if you have work done while on vacation in another city hundreds of miles from where you live? Just food for thought. |

5 Star - while I concluded that the Chrysler extended warranty is the best one available for our Prolwers, (that'why I bought it) My understanding is that it is run seperately from the original factory warranty and in some cases where the dealer's service manager could make a decision on a factory warranty issue, they must call in an outside rep to verify the same issue on some repairs. Don't take this a knock on the Chrysler warranty, just know that there may still be a delay in getting some repair issues approved. It happened to me. I am still most satisfied with the warranty.

Marty, Glad to hear you're satisfied with your warranty (I also purchased a C.S.C.). I have only had one instance where the service manager did not have the ability to make a warranty determination but it was only because we all knew that the repair was necessary due to owner negligence. We took photos and forwarded to D/C's attention and they covered the repair (carpet replacement) at 100% anyway. I guess Chrysler just wants their owners to be happy. I do understand, however that not all dealerships are created equal. My dealership is a level three repair facility and does not require district approval for warranty or service contract repair. ------------------ This message has been edited by FiveStar Dealer on 04-23-2003 at 08:06 PM |

I love my Prowler, but I feel I must rebut the "Five Star Dealer". I have in the past purchased a Chrysler extended warranty, 7/70. I was very displeased with the coverage and the dealers charges for what I considered warranty items. The problem with any warranty is that until you have to use it, you really do not know what is covered. Buyer beware as in all transactions. Bottom line is everyone dealer or aftermarket, wants your money. |

Richard, It is disturbing to hear that you've had problems with coverage in the past on your Chrysler Service Contract and I support your position that the buyer should ALWAYS beware when purchasing this type of agreement. I would like to say, however, that Chrysler offers many different levels of coverage and a lot depends on which contract is bought. The Maximum Care contract covers more items than any other extended warranty but it is also the most expensive contract we sell. I will also reitterate that all dealers are NOT created equal. The truth is, there are many dealers out there who want nothing more than to take your money and have you go away. Since I handle ALL the Prowlers that come through our dealership, I can ensure that, at least here, that sort of thinking will not apply. Thanks for listening. ------------------ This message has been edited by FiveStar Dealer on 04-24-2003 at 04:02 AM |

Unfortunately, you are 23 hours away from me. Please explain to me the procedure to obtain warranty coverage on the weather strips; convertible top fabric; and interior soft trim considering the provisions in the contract you specified. Just so someone doesn't get the wrong idea, www.exoticwarranty.com's coverage for the Prowler is bumper-to-bumper less maintenance items like brake pads, tires, windshield wipers. It covers MORE than Chryslers warranty and is reinsured just the same as theirs. Quite a few "Internet" warranty companies are just reselling exclusionary warranties that really don't cover anything. Always read the fine print. Always. -Ben [Disclaimer: Owner of The Exotic Warranty Company] |

Grrowl, Okay, so I needed to review my own warranty. I just ran labor operations a week back to cover a convertible top under this warranty so I'll review the records in my office tomorrow and post a reply within 48 hrs. I could be mistaken, it wouldn't be the first time. If it's a different contract, I'll let you know which one it was. |

I had a 3rd party extended warranty in the past. It was issued thru AAA to its members thru a 4th party. It was good up to 100K miles. At 98K, when my transmission went out, I needed it. I found out that the company had gone out of business. I called AAA on that, and they were aware of them shutting their doors, and sent me to yet, a 5th party to cover the rest of the contract. They were told that a rebuilt transmission would cost them $750. They said "rebuilt?? Put in a NEW one!" Then they were told that a new one would cost $1500. Their reply was, "so put in a NEW one!" Yes, the process did take a little longer, but it was a matter of a couple phone calls. And I did have to pay first with a check (which was held until the warranty company's check arrived) to get my car back when I did. There are people that will honor a warranty, and people that won't. It is buyer beware. Check out what you buy. I'm also interested to know from 5 star how the things he says are covered are not covered in GRROWL's contract. And something I found a little funny today was that when I went to read up on ben's contract offerings, I found out that his premium bumper to bumper warranty doesn't cover bumpers... but it did sound like a pretty good contract. It closely resembled the contract I had before. How long has he been in business selling these contracts? Maybe he can tell us! |

idive - The Exotic Warranty Company has been around for 3 short months. The underwriter who reinsures the contracts has been around for a little bit longer of course, and that is where the financial strength comes in. In the event that ANYONE goes out of business, there are performance bonds and reserves that are held in mandate by the States Department of Insurance regulations. We cater mainly to the niche market of exotics. We also know what vehicles we are covering. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, etc... As far as not covering bumpers, it's mainly because people will get in a small accident and try to get new bumpers under warranty. When was the last time your bumpers stopped working and needed to be replaced under warranty? Cordially, -Ben www.exoticwarranty.com |
