Few prowlers have been done, i am thinking about it as i want a custom look without adding a body kit. Thinking of adding Lambo Doors. The LamboDoors.com kit seems great, something definitely for me, and the price is reasonable at $50.00.

Could be a prowler first!

Wesman down in Ft. Lauderdale has some really nice Lambo Doors on his Kat. And from what I understood - he didn't modify the door itself at all. Might want to get in touch with him. He had a nice job done on them.

Hi there tunerdan

I'm not tryin' to pee in your cheerios here, but before you let yourself get too excited, best I can tell all you get for your $50 is INSTRUCTIONS on how to convert your car to "lambo" doors - nothing else - no hinges, no other parts, no nothin'. Just some instructions.

Here's what it says on the "order now" page:

PRODUCT: Vertical Door Conversion Kit

DESCRIPTION: This kit includes a Do-it-Yourself step by step instruction manual and a supplemental cd on how to convert your existing car doors into vertical scissor doors.

SPECIAL PRICE: $49.99USD

If I'm readin' the site wrong I apologize, but I don't think I am. Look at it again and see if you can find anywhere where it says you get anything other than instructions for yer money. The instructions may be "cheap", but the actual conversion may cost you a small fortune...

Buck, I think if you have a vise, you can simply bend the hinges slightly and all will work perfectly. lol

Can you guys tell me what kit you went with and approx how much it cost? I'm seriously thinking about doing it. The bolt on ones do not seem nearly as sturdy and the ones that are welded on, but I'd appreciate any kind of information. Thanks.

Seen the verticle doors display and talked with them at SEMA. They say their kit is a True Bolt on kit, and installs in about 2 hours...

I'm curious to find out if that's true.

This company was also at SEMA and it seemed a lot more sturdy since it's a weld on kit. It's a little cheaper at 2k also.

$2,050--don't forget S&H!
(And $500 - $600 installation cost, unless you're very talented!)

The thing with these lambo doors is the shock. The Prowler doors are one of the lightest out there. These companies don't make a light enough shock for them. The lightest shock is 2600 lbs pressure. That makes closing the door very hard, most women and smaller men can't close the door while sitting in the car. I bitched enough about it that they protyped two sets of 1800 lbs pressure shocks. One set went to Europe, the other is on my car. Anyone can open and close the doors now. All these companies pretty much do the same thing, but almost none of them have done it on a Prowler. They won't have a shock with the right pressure for a Prowler. Also, anyone who does this will have to trim the side panel on the driver side and remove a metal brace from the door well. You can't get around doing that, so I wouldn't believe anyone that says they have a direct bolt on kit for the Prowler. Hope this helps, Wes.

6. Have you taken into consideration the weight of the door and glass?
>>>>Yes, the lift supports supply 300 pounds of force per side to motivate the doors up. On most cars the supplied lift supports make the door feel weightless when you lift it up. Cars with light doors will feel like the door wants to spring up on its own when you lift it.

Our Prowler doors weigh less than 100 pounds, I'm sure. Imagine trying to close the door down with one hand while sitting in the car, while you have 300 pounds of pressure holding the door up. Not as easy as it sounds.

Cnote6,Weswman and all others that have paved the way for Lambo doors thanks a million.

I have taken the plunge...
I am scheduled to have the doors installed on the 22nd of November.
I have decided to go with GT Factory's Diablo Door Kit.
I will be having the Manufacture Gt Factory doing the install. In helping me make my decision I, like others have asked many of the same questions, can I still open the doors the normal way, can I return the car to stock, how difficult will it be to close the doors from the upright postion and will they give me more access room?
It was there response to the "difficultly of closing door" that helped me make my mind up. Wes thanks for your psoting on the difficulites you experienced and that gave me much concern.
Wes, I hope you don't mind me using your response to see how GT Factory dealt with this issue. The following response was given to me by GT Factory after I gave them a link to this topic, they did not have any problems with me posting the response. (good advertising as well).

Again thanks to all of you for helping me make up my mind.

You are welcome to post the following info on the net to inform the other forum members.

Unfortunately Weswman chose our competitors kit.
To clarify some things about the nitrogen gas lifts that come with the GT Factory kit:
The lifts are powerful because the doors weight is leveraged against the lifts.
The type of lift is the same as any hatchback, and replacements or custom pressures
can be found at your local auto parts store.
Typical car Doors actually weigh 50-80lbs each.
The Diablo system ships with two 150lb lifts per side totaling 300lbs of force.
If the gas springs are pushing way too hard because the prowler door is extremely light, then an easy solution would be to use only one gas lift per side. These are options that are unavailable to you with other kits out there because they have a special lift designed only for use with their kit and getting replacements and alternate pressures is like pulling teeth.

Attached are pictures of our kit installed on the prowler.
The other kits on the market can not compare to GT Factory's Diablo systems superior list of features:
And nobody can beat our new low price of $999 + shipping and install.
Unlike the other door conversions, The Diablo system is
-Engineered to be three times stronger
-Designed for a universal fit and a quick install
-covered under a limited lifetime warranty
-the only kit on the market that goes 90 degrees vertical
-keeps doors straight up instead of hanging to the side
-Dual nitrogen gas lifts for each door rated at 300lbs of force
-has four infinitely adjustable points for the look and fit you want
-100% CNC machined 4130 chromoly steel construction
-Nickel plated for corrosion protection and show quality looks
-maintains factory safety and accessories
-Free install CD-Rom with over 130 high rez pictures

You can check out the video of how the Diablo system performs here, www.gtfactory.jp/gtfvideo.wmv

Best Regards, Dan of GT Factory

After you get it done, let me know if you really can get in and out of the car the regular way, without putting the doors up. Wes

So it is only a thousand dollars for the kit? I thought that's what the rep told me at SEMA, but I was confused when the site said 2k. That definitely just made up my mind.

Very impressive video. If they can make it work that easy on the prowler I'd be very interested in seeing that. Think it's a good idea to have them do the install - and keep the pressure 100% on them and no pissing contest if a problem occurs. Please keep us updated on the progress. Oh - and how much are they going to charge for the install?
