Had one of the first '03 SSR's but I sold it after just a few months. After I found out about the LS2 engine for '05, I saw the big hit in price coming so I sold it. If I had waited just 3 or 4 weeks the price would have dropped about $6,000 more!

I always liked the SSR from the minute I saw the first picture. Test drove an '05 last week and most of the things that I did not like about the '03 have been fixed. They have a nice ride and the top down turbulence is minimal. Stills weighs to much but the extra power really helps. Not that important to me but with all the space in the bed, it is almost a practical car!

Still like it and as soon as GM steps up with a decent rebate I will have another. Will be interesting to watch the pricing if GM decides to kill it off after '05 or '06.

quote:

Check out the car and driver review of this one. They toasted it, they say For the money you can find a much faster & better ride.

Be careful with this one , just about every car mag said the same thing about the Prowler after it had been out for a while.

The SSR appeals to a lot of people, myself NOT being one of them.So many improvements on the latest version certainly makes it a lot better but if presented a choice quite a few other makes would top my list(Magnum being one of them).

I would trade my Prowler for a brand new 05 SSR aqua blur here in Germany : >> and buy then a low mile Prowler in the USA again.
But, it will go the opposite way.
Low miles SSR´s 03/04 went for up 25000 out of some US-car Auctions . ( Thats less than 18500 Euro ) Compare to Jan.04, dealers aks 42000Euro´s (49000 USD)in the USA for the SSR.
What a dropp of value ! >> whats good for me !, because I waited till today. And , I check the money marked till april(or Aug 05.) If the dollar dropps more, I sell the Prowler , get US-Dollars and buy a Prowler + SSR in the US.

NOPE...there honestly is nothing out there that I would rather have. The Prowler is so unique. Definitely in a class all by itself. JMO
Besides...what other car out there would give you the opportunity to deal with such GREAT people as on this fantastic POA website.
Have a good night everyone!

Nope!!! I wouldn't trade my Kat for 3 SSR's. it's okay, but not my first choice for a Kat companion. May consider the new "Charger" if it doesn't deviate too much from the "concept".

NEVER!!! I'm keeping my Prowler as long as possible, God willing. Only new car that appeals to me is the Mustang, but only as an additional car to the Prowler...and since I have many more things I want to buy for the Prowler...Julie says one toy is enough right now!!!

I like the new Mustang, and it looks cool coming down the road, but the interior was just a huge dull expanse of chunky black plastic....a real turn off. I saw a GT in person, and saw how much $$ I'd have to put into it to enjoy it...IE: A shaker hood, interior trim, and beefier exhaust.

Would never "trade the Prowler" on anything but if "I" could have a toy this one would be my choice. I love it...always have!!

SS What? Is it a truck? Is it a car? Is it cool? Apparently none of the above. How many dealers have them sitting on their lots. I just watched a brand new 2004 sell for 27K at an auction.

I would not trade my Prowler for one, but if I had the extra cash and space I would like to have one in addition to my Kat.

The following link should speak volumes: www.detnews,com/2004/autoinsider/0412/30/autos-46534.htm

If this link doesn't work for you, go to google & enter
"Chevrolet SSR Production halt". The link you want will be right on top.

A neighbor of ours worked on the finance team for that product last year. She spoke of GM's intention to offer a standard shift trans but NOT before the '06 model. At this rate, it might not happen. I must admit, as a died in the wool "Blue Oval" fan, I lusted for the SSR. My issue with it, is that it's just too damned heavy; by about 1,200 lbs. Like the GTO, it's just priced to far out there. Doomed to fail. Also, I don't know WHY they felt it needed to be built on the Trailblazer chassis, Waaaaaaaaay to heavy to start with.
Just my opinion.

Did not consider trading a Prowler in on one. I just added one to the collection. I like it very much and it makes a nice addition to the toy box.

i would get one in a heartbeat, but not trading the prowler for it though, i would try to get a bargain basement deal on a 03 or 04, to me, that extra horsepower means nothing, just like the prowler, it's not about speed, it's a cruiser, it's about looking cool & being seen when i wanna go fast, then i'll jump into my porsche turbo.

As a prowler Owner it is nice to see that the Prowler used car prices are not going down, better , they rise a bit.
I like the SSR. It fits (a little bit) in the same Rod, Custom + Muscle Car szene like the Prowler.
I testdrove a 05in Germany. (The Dealers sell them with modified the Chip /+400HP, and no governor in for lots of money)
The SSR is heavy, but I think its a better performer as the Prowler.
I like the V8 sound and the torgh. Its a cruiser too, but I ran quick on the end of the speedo (140m/ph) with this big + heavy roadster pu. Its comfortable, has lots of caro space. The steel auto roof is also a very nice thing. They are more and more custom parts aviable for the SSR. Good to see that the SSR price goes down fast, I´m gone get one sooner or later
>>>>> We should not compare it with the Prowler
The Prowler is more Hot Rod and rock & roll , and by fare the better headturner.
