When I first saw the car I knew I had to have one, then on checking around and seeing all the inflated prices I desided I would wait and buy used. Then in 02 I purchased a 2000 on ebay with only 1,600 miles.Believe it or not I have had this car longer than any cars I have owned in 10 years.I had this car 3 years past July.Still happy with it,just don't use it enough.Lots of health issues with wife and myself.

Always loved the car and I waited until:

1. I had the money to pay cash for a pleasure vehicle that would get limited use.

2. Found a seller willing to "give it away" (MINT 99 black for $27.5K and only 580 miles)

No waiting here, I knew I had to have one the first time I saw one in 1995. I gave Eric Lee with Latham a deposit for a 1997 model in 1996. Due to the limited number of 97's produced Eric didn't get the cars he was promised, so I pulled my deposit in early 1998. I researched every 97 model I saw listed for sale, but all of the asking prices were between $80K and $100K. I held out until April 1998 and bought one out of San Antonio. I'll admit to paying more than sticker, but I paid *much* less than the average $80K+ paid for the 97's. Absolutely no regrets here, I've had much more fun than that money would have bought otherwise in the 7.5 years and 33K miles I've owned this car!

In 1998 I went to look at my first Prowler at a dealership in Tampa. A 1997 sat in the showroom surrounded by velvet ropes. $125,000 - told the salesman he had to be joking! Fast forward to 2000.
I lived 5 blocks from a five star dealership and everyday driving to and from work I got to see the Prowlers showcased in front. First the red - nice, but not for me. Then next to the red was the yellow - nice, but not for me. THEN next to the red and the yellow was the black - it was all she wrote! I knew I had to have it. One Saturday I went to "seriously" look at the 3 Prowlers. All $52,000 out the door. That was better than the $125,000 2 years earlier but still too rich for me. 2 days later, red gone for asking price. 2 weeks later, yellow gone for asking price. The black kept calling me back. Exactly 3 weeks after my first visit I had a 2000 black with 6 miles and saved 4 grand. Thought I was getting a deal at $48,000. I wanted it, and I wanted it NOW! To me it has been worth every penny!

I saw the Prowler in 1994 and I immediately went to the dealer I work with and told him I would buy all my company vehicles from him if I could have his first Prowler at list when he got one. Beginning that year I began buying my company trucks from him and I continued until February of 1998. A '97 comes in and he calls and says to pick it up. The last thing I want to do is drive the kat home in snow but I agreed to pay for it if he would keep it until the roads were dry. I show up to pay for the car and someone from Ohio is there that wants the car. He wants it for $25000 over list. The dealer says its my call. I agree to wait for the next car and the dealer gives me $5000.00 for letting him sell the kat. I told him to keep the money and take it off the next one. My yellow comes in July of '98 and I get the car for $5000 under list.

Marty, I have heard nothing from him. I don't even remember his name. I could probably track it down through the dealer though.

Dave - I'm not THAT curious. We still have some POA members that bought the early cars. There is one local guy that still has the first Prowler bought in Kentucky. he doesn't drive it much and prefers his 99 Yellow!

I was number one on a Prowler list in '97. When the dealer got one in he called and said the price would be $90,000. I said "never mind". While vacationing in Canada in September of '98 I saw a yellow Prowler in Victoria on Vancouver Island and I knew I had to have one. Got my yellow Kat in March of '99 at a reasonable price with only 262 miles on it.

Saw the Prowler the first time at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt in Sept. 1994 as a concept. I liked it a lot, but it was so fare away to even think about. At this time I had my first Street Rod, a 1931 Model-A Coupe. The first real-one showed up in my live at the ESRA Nats Germany in 1999. Very expensive, I still liked it a lot, had my fourth street rod at this time.
In 2001 I picked up parts for my 34 Roadster project in LA, visited las vegas and did the first test drive in a rental-prowler (5 hours tour). Still liked it a lot and a bit more. Early 2003 I got a mail from my ex girlfriend (still very good girlfriend) out of ohio. There where DC-factory 2001 Prowlers left over that I can get to a good price.
I had 5 days time to get the money, a flight, rental car & go.. I did ! I bought the Prowler as a stress free alternative to my Street-Rod hobby. The Prowler does this till today very good, and, rides more Hot-Rod than expected.(??$%+,XX??!!!)

#3 for me. I still really shouldn't own it but I do and I love it!

When I saw the first one in a dealership (97) I fell in love with it but at $85K I figured I would never own one. Like most young couples with little kids and deep in debt I forgot all about having one. Fast forward 8 years, worked my tail off and paid off all my debt (except mortgage), decided I needed a fun car and found this site. Bought my low mileage 99 purple from a fellow POA member, paid cash.

Guess I could have paid the mortgage off instead but you only live once!

Had to wait until the timing was right, and had to many other cars to have a toy. BUT I LOVE IT. I think it looks better now that it has been 4 years since production.

I knew I wanted one the first time I saw a Prowler at a car show in the early or mid 90's. In 1996 I moved to Botswana in Africa for three years. From there I moved to Kathmandu, Nepal for another four years. I returned to the US in the summer of 2003. By October I bought my Prowler.

Here are the excuse I have heard:

1) Financial thing, where either you did not have the money at the time or you were not willing to pay the ridiculous new car mark up price at the dealer.

2) Never knew about the Prowler. I have met several owners who never saw one or knew Chrysler made the Prowler until 2001, 2002 and etc.

3) Waited a few years, bought it used and saved a bunch of money.

4) Other....Please explain.

They had to make them.

Put a deposit on it in Feb. of 96. The car was to start production on Jan 17th 1997 but was delayed until July. My car was final inspected on June 29th 1998 and delivered to the dealer on July 11th (a Saturday) I was informed on Monday to call the dealer on Tuesday. Went to dealer Tuesday morning and got paperwork. went to bank and got $$$$ and took delivery on July 15th 1998

5 months later I did this to it

I LOVED this car ever since I first saw it as a concept at the Chicago Auto show. When I found out that they were going to make it - I KNEW I HAD TO HAVE ONE!!!
The first one I ever saw on the street was in the winter of '98 coming out of Washington state, at a highway gas station. It was a purple on the back of a flat bed. I WAS MESMORIZED BY THE SIGHT OF THAT CAR AND STARED HARD AT IT ON MY WAY OUT OF THE GAS STATION.
In spring 1999 I saw a yellow one here at a dealership and flew in there to ask about it. The salesman came up and I told him that I was trying to decide about buying that car or getting a building. He told me, "Forget the car, get the building!"
So I got the building, but I NEVER FORGOT ABOUT THAT CAR!!!
I licked my wounds by driving my GNX and my Road Runner, but I NEVER FORGOT ABOUT THAT CAR!!!
When I heard that Plymouth was folding, I thought that I would die because I thought I WOULD NEVER GET ONE OF THESE CARS!!
By 2004 I had had ENOUGH!!! So I checked and planned and finally decided between a yellow and a gold. A co-worker helped me pick out a gold.
I got the gold also from Eric Latham at a good price. It had 5000 miles on it. He offered me a trailer for $3000.00 AND I WISELY TURNED HIM DOWN!!!
The car now has almost 30,000 miles on it and I gotta say that I have owned many cars; good, bad and in between BUT THIS PROWLER IS THE BEST CAR THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED, HANDS DOWN!!! The minor idiosyncrasies can't even compare with the happiness that the car brings. AND THE FACT THAT IT IS A FUTURE COLLECTIBLE IS THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!
Now I want a Black Tie too...

Always liked it, but the high $ price here in Europe made it impossible in the fist prowler years. I rented one in Las Vegas for the first prowler-experiance (5 hour ride)in Nov 2001 and bought one in april 2003.

I didn't want to pay the $50,000 dealer "market adjustment" on top of the $40,000 sticker price for the first 1997 Prowler. Waited till 1999 to get mine at a reasonable price.
