I came across this post in the Mach 1 registry while looking for Prowler post. It's a good read. Enjoy. "Up & Coming Classics in the next 15 yrs" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Being our economy is changing, and our oil supply is being dictated by foreign reserves, our environmental standards are getting higher, and our advancement of technology and engineering is moving at such a rapid pace, gasoline run cars will slowly be diminishing. However, there will still be special interest groups for certain vehicles....such as these Pony cars, Muscle cars and Sports cars, which are strictly American Muscle: 1990-1995 Corvette ZR1 Other up and coming collectible mass produced cars: 1970 Riviera This just to name a few....there are more on the list. The rule of thumb with any collectible is production numbers. Anything produced under 21,000 is considered low numbers. Any car that has been modified by the factory, as far as engine, suspension, paint & styling, increases the collectiblity of the car. Collectors and enthusiasts have preserved the heritage of these great cars. It is an industry that is growing rapidly. Enthusiasts from all over the world are jumping on board. If owner's of certain cars back in the early '50's and 60's would have known what the value and popularity of these special interest cars would be today, they would have surely tried to store them and try to preserve their heritage. But, with the economy changes within the last thirty years, such as gas prices and environmental restraints, some were forced to divest of their investment and enjoyment, without realizing what the future potential was. Some never had the forsight and awareness that some do today, and would scoff at anyone that would either store the car, or try to keep low mileage on it. The destruction and demise of many of these fine cars due to lack of foresight, has led to an even higher demand for the few that are left and in good condition. These cars that are the next up and coming collectibles, and are going to be even more desireable than the pony and muscle cars of yesteryear. Today's cars have better electronics and engineering. You could turn 12's and 13's at the track, drive the car home, get 25-28 mpg, sit in traffic for two hours with the air conditioning and stereo playing, and not have the trouble that the older ones would give you. Car collecting is a hobby enjoyed by millions, and companies like Barrett-Jackson Auctions are helping this industry grow, by recognizing the special cars. Also, people like Chip Miller, a dear friend, who passed away this week, who was an avid Corvette enthusiast and started Corvettes at Carlisle, has contributed so much to the pastime and enjoyment of collecting cars, by taking people out of their everyday environment and putting them in a different world. This is the world of people who are very different in mindset when it comes to their special cars. And, that's ok, because all they do is increase the value of these specialty cars for the future. It's also funny, that when these cars become collectibles the ones that scoffed at the measures people took to take care of their cars, will now want to get on the gravy train by asking top dollar for a car that needs to be fully restored. It's exciting to see what the future will hold for these Mach's....but for myself and others in the business, we feel it will be an exciting future. You are very lucky to own your Mach 1's. Don't crush em.....restore em. ------------------ |

When I take the Duster in for service, it often shows Dodge on the receipt. And I take it to a dealer who was Chrysler Plymouth.....go figure. |
