Don, parts of it are in really good shape. Some of it is not driveable at all but there are parallel roads. Some of it is just okay. I didn't see anything that was as nearly as bad as we drove on in Tulsa area. |

Don, What Ed said! There are sections of the road in great, good, not so good, and "where is the road" sections. We plan on playing hit and miss with it. To do the entire trip staying as much as possible on the original road is easily 4-6 weeks. |

Route 66 is in all sorts of condition but it is all good. Tulsarama a couple years ago took us over Route 66 including this original bridge and roadway. Bridge is wide enough for 1 car as you can see. "Back in the Day" the nearest town considered replacing the bridge because traffic would back up forever. They then decided a lot of that traffic wouldn't have to stop/stay in town if they replaced it so it still stands today This message has been edited by MIKE GATLIN on 11-16-2008 at 11:04 AM |

Just bringing this back up. We will be leaving California June 24, heading East by way of Utah hwy. 12, then across Colorado picking up US 36 (thanks again Ed for the tip last year) thru Kansas and Missouri, then up to Chicago to hit the start of Route 66, a day in Springfield, Illinois to see the Lincoln library, then the sights and sounds of the Mother Road all the home. Arriving back in California July 11. Any one thats interested in joining us for all, or part, of the trip let me know. Looks like we will have a good group for the trip. |

Yes Ed i was in Chicago for New Years with your good buddy Ray, And why on earth would i have to keep a story straight. All of my friends live in Chicago and the suburbs not in Puerto Rico, Man you are reminding me of my brother who asks too many questions. It might be because my parent's only left him 1 dollar in their will. This message has been edited by Rocky Vander on 01-15-2009 at 11:21 AM |
