At what point will the Prowler start appreciating in value. I bought my 99 at Christmas time in excellent condition for $29,000 with 6,700 miles on it. I tell people I bought a 1999 Plymouth ( I leave out the Prowler Part) for $29,000 just to see their reaction. They think you are nuts. Then I tell them it is a Prowler. The Prowler is a forgotten car by the masses but when you mention the name almost everyone knows what you are talking about. The Plymouth name at the end of their life did not create much excitement with people. Unfortunately the Prowler was too little too late! |

I am not sure that I will live to see the day the Prowler starts to appreciate. I am 65 years old. The market is flooded with low mileage cars right now. Except for certain milestone cars, I don't believe the Prowler will appreciate above the original MSRP until the demand exceeds the supply. |

I guess it depends on where you are starting from. It looks like you were the original proud owner and I wish I were too! But I bought used because I didn't have all my ducks in a row when they were still in production and my wife being the more practical one we waited until now to buy. I'm sure a 99 Prowler is worth more than say a 99 Corvette because of supply and demand. There are certain models that are worth more like you said and that holds true for Corvettes also. Because I waited I didn't get the satisfaction of a new car almost 12 years ago but I didn't take the initial hit on price and I still have a very nice car. |

Catfish, I am talking about the Plymouth brand name not just the Prowler. Before the Prowler where was the excitement in the Plymouth name? I am not a Mopar guy but when I think of excitement I don't think of K Cars and Minivans, and Chrysler New Yorkers that look like compact cars and all had the same 4 cylinder engines and small v6's. When people talk about excitement they talk Mustang, Corvette, Camaro, and Firebird. Chrysler made bread and butter but not excitement. I know the Prowler was only suppose to be a limited production car but it wasn't enough to save Plymouth. Bad economy din't help either. |

As a Plymouth guy from way back, excitement to me is: Superbird, 'Cuda, Roadrunner, GTX. Those were the cars of my youth. I bought my Prowler new also, and I couldn't care less about the monetary value. I measure the value in the people I have met and the places I have been. That is the real value in this little roadster. ------------------ |

Dave you hit it right on the head... I have owned all the cars that you mentioned above, but not till the Prowler did I find so many super nice people that own them... It has changed my life... The Prowler is more than a car, it's a life changing experience... John(onecatnodog) |

I will admit it, I bought my Kat because I wanted one! I had to play a head game with my wife ( the practical one ) that it was a good investment! I have yet to enjoy this fine car on the road, I get excited just looking at her in the garage. My wife loves cars, we have 9 of them and she gets attached to them like they were her kids. She has her dad's 1960 Buick Electra that he bought when she was 12 years old. It has 50,000 miles on it and is all original. Our attached garage has 3 in it and we call it the "showroom". I have 5 in the back garage and my Prius sits outside. I need more garage space! |

We used to go to Chili's in Valpo on Friday nights and they used the Target parking lot. I forgot they moved down on 30. My wife and I will look forward to meeting you. You will be our first live Prowler owner we will have met! Is there a car club that sponsors it? My wife says I goof with people but I will hold the attorney jokes until I get to know you better! There I go again ( she just slapped me in the head). |

Lesson here is ...Buy the Prowler and drive the hell out of it. It is doubtful you will live long enough to see it become a high price collectors' car. So might as well enjoy your life now and forget the monetary value of the car. JMO |

It seems to me that anything that is (or has been) manufactured as a collectible never becomes anything of value. People buy things as an investment and put them in storage just like many many others then become disappointed when they lose value. Just imagine you bought a brand new 1969 Camaro for $3500.00 with the intention of it being an investment. Add the costs of $3,500.00 for the car, $12,000.00 for storage, and $4,800.00 for insurance. In today's market $20,000.00 would be a fair market value for the car in "as new" condition given the economy and number of cars left. Now imagine that eight out of ten people that bought the car had the same idea you did and also stored the car like you did. Would the car now be worth the 20K price, or would it be more like 5K? This would have been a poor investment huh. I am not taking into account adjustments for inflation or the rarity of specific options the car may have had. Were the steps taken to preserve the car worth the effort from an investment perspective? My guess would be NO. All that you would have accomplished would have been to preserve the car for someone else to enjoy. Don't let that happen. Drive it, enjoy it, don't worry about it. I bought my Prowler two years ago with under 14,000 miles and it now has just over 26,000 miles on it. I am the third owner and have had more fun driving it that either of the two prior owners who both lost a few bucks when they sold it. I bought the car to drive and enjoy and have enjoyed meeting other people out there that also drive and enjoy their cars. These people are worth every penny of the investment....what a bonus When the time comes to sell the car (if ever) and I only get ten cents on the dollar, I will still be happy. JMO |

The prowler is not like a vette. You can't pick up an auto trader and come up with 20 or 30 choices in your neck of the woods. I paid a fair dollar for my car and I didn't mind because it is in awesome shape and is to me an extremely beautiful work of art. Yes if I wanted to fly to Florida or somewhere, purchase, import and ship it back homeI might have got a less expensive one. But all of that would have been costly and a royal pain. When I bought, there were only 3 or 4 local choices and that kept the price up. So in that sense, their value will stay high for cars in good shape. |

I've got a hint...its a car not a CD. We're fortunate that the prices have held up as well as they have. The best investment was the trailer which everyone thought was stupid expensive at the time. They still bring about what they were new, if you can find one and are lucky enough to find it in the color to match your car and it has chrome wheels. Specialty car prices are soft. We've had three bad economic years. It's winter with big piles of snow in many places around the country. Gas is headed to $4 a gallon. If you feel bad about your vehicle investment, take a look at the drop in prices paid for high end cars going through the auctions. Many have lost multiples of the full price of our cars in the last two years. Here's a news flash....a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it when you want to sell it. Its got nothing to do with what you THINK it's worth. |

Bob, great point. I told Sandy it would be a cold day in HeLLL when I paid $ 4200-4500 for a trailer I might use 14 days a year. I have had 3 or 4 so far. Of course I am also the one who said no car clubs, no vanity plate and no mods. I guess I could qualify as wishy-washy on some of those items. I would think Padroo will have an epiphany in a month or so. I know a lot of my ideas and opinions have changed drastically. Enjoy the car or your heirs will. |

Padroo - one of the greatest attributes of the Prowler is the people you meet!! It's been almost 10 years since I bought my Prowler on ebay and now I spend vacations with up to 200 people or more I never would of met if I had bought another Corvette or any other car. I hope you can attend an event. The Nursing Home National event in September is in your home state - The Upper Penninsula event in June is a less than day drive for you (24 hours drive time for us). Get behind the wheel of your Prowler and have some fun! This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 02-23-2011 at 11:32 PM |

Plymouth was always the "bread and butter" or base level company within the Chrysler line up. And many of those cars were not optioned the same as the ones offered by Dodge. But with models like GTX, Road Runner, Cuda, etcetera, the Plymouth name will be gone but never forgotten. But give the little Prowler some time!!! It took awhile for ALL of the musclecars to gain some steam. In '85, you could get a perfect Superbird here in Chicago for $5000. In '87, a guy offered me a Hemi Challenger for $2000. In '93, I was offered a pristine '69 Camaro for $1200. And "RPL" is right. When I bought my car, the dealership offered me a trailer to go with it for $3000 more and I turned it down!!! In hindsight, I could have kicked myself!!! Even "Barret-Jackson" recently stated that they're finally seeing the market go upwards after being down for the last several years. |

I like the prices as they are. The more expensive they get the less likely people will actually drive them. When I wear one out I want to be able to afford another one or add another to the collection. If the Prowler would have been $50000 or $60000 6 years ago when I bought the first one, I most likely would not have bought the first one or the second one. How many high dollar old cars do you actually see driving around other than to a show or cruise. Once they are worth $100000 you are going to be afraid to drive them. I think I'm going for a drive. |
