Thinking of coloring the Bumpers black color like the car color. Does anyone know the color name or number they use on the Black Prowler? would like it to be the same color as the car. I did do a search nothing really came up on the color number. And if anyone had their Bumpers colored how much would the price range be. Thank you |

its sem, thats the maker, wrought iron black is the name sem is a automotive rattle can maker.should be avaiable from any auto body supply paint store.to paint all 4 to match color of car youre looking at about 320.00.that does not include cost of removing bumpers for paint.to do it right the bumpers must come off the car.another 320.00.the bumper paint should also have flex agent added to it.if you were to bump something the flex will keep the paint from cracking.the bumpers must also be scuffed to help adhesion.the auto body supply store can also make a spray can to match color of your code.the color code of car is on sticker on drivers door.there is no code for wrought iron black. ------------------ This message has been edited by catfish on 04-02-2013 at 02:32 PM |

Thats good advice about the flex agent. When I had some painted bumpers off to install a hitch, one of them slid off the bench and hit the concrete. Bad cracking occurred. Now I have to have that bumper re-done. |

The correct basecoat-clearcoat paint color code to paint your Bumpers Black, the same color as your Black Prowler, is VXT. |

If you have black car it would look best with the same color. I painted my gray rear bumpers Black. Since my car is yellow just wanted gloss black. My buddy that painted them said, WHAT COLOR BLACK DO YOU WANT. Well there are a lot, but gloss black looks better than the semi gloss gray or black in my opinion. Also my opinion, they look best with Tom Mills bumper removal kit ------------------ |

up date, I went to one of the best Auto Body shop in the area, Used him on my other car before, He only does Benz and BMW work. He is authorized by BMW to do work on them by them. He told me the BMW, when they paint their cars they use special mix ( he said it i forgot what it was) and that's what he uses in his paint which has the flex agent in it. He gave me a quote, I should have had my Depends on when I saw the quote, but his work is high quality. He also said before he paints the bumpers, he has to take out the oils on it, he showed another bumper that he was working on. Before painting it he has to remove the oils on it, so if you are going to paint yours, ask your paint shop to remove the oils on it before they start to paint it. He did give me a great advice on the side panel parts. He said get it 3M clear coat on it after you paint it. The process is like tinting your car takes about 20 minutes to do, its a clear plastic cover over it, and you will never have to repaint it. The QUOTE, I will try other body shops for more quotes and ask their process on it. |

My body shop didn't remove any oil. The paint still looks great after 8 years or so and about 55,000 miles. The price was nowhere near that price. The fronts are harder to paint due to the triangle. I would check another body shop, maybe 2 or 3 and get a realistic price. I will attempt to find out what I paid. |

most shops charge for paint labor and mat is 70.00 to 80.00 bucks per hr.that inc.material.4 x 80= 320.00 or 1 hr each part.the fdr protectors which also must be removed are 0.5 each or a half hr each.make sure to use flex agent in paint for the fdr protectors or the paint will chip easily, and you will be doing it again.being that all these parts are plastic also add adhesion promotor to the paint.you will not be able to retape fdr protectors,so use 5 or 6 globs each about the size of a quarter of 100 percent silicone to hold them on.tape them in place and push on them to spread silicone.let dry 48 hrs and remove tape.its pretty impossible to remove old tape from protectors, thats why silicone.if the shop has a large eraser to remove old tape the you will be able to install new tape.when using a eraser do not overheat the part. ------------------ This message has been edited by catfish on 04-10-2013 at 01:17 PM |

It cost me $200.00 to paint both of my bumpers to yellow to matching the car in 2002. It should not cost more than $500 now. |

The auto body shops in the Northeast are swamped with work from Superstorm Sandy. This could explain the high estimate for the little work you want done. They don't need the extra work right now. In fact the insurance cos are totaling cars in accidents cause the body shops they work with cannot take on any more jobs and this would delay getting the cars back to the customers. So Ins Cos are given reasonable settlements and let the customer buy a replacement vehicle. For now I would clean the bumpers and apply Meguiers Back to Black on them. |

Mine were painted many years ago $175 and I removed and installed They are not hard to remove so you might find someone to paint them and you remove yourself. As far as painting the rock guards, remove them and put the 3M rock guard film on the fender, seen it done and cars still look good. My rock guards were painted 33,000 miles ago and only have a few blemishish in them today 1,400 is a little on the high side, guy works on overpriced cars and giving you an overpriced estimate. Guy I use doesn't even give me a written estimate, verbal and is great. Painted many award winning cars. So a HAND WRITTEN ESTIMATEis no big deal, not everyone needs a computer to add. ------------------ |

If I were to repaint mine I would do it myself. I am not a rocket scientist. I have a cover over my front bumper made by http://www.speedlingerie.com/. My car is black and the cover is made out of the same material the bra is made out of. They are pricey but take stones well and bugs wipe off just like the bra and gives it a custom look. |

Looks like getting a paint job in NY is not good. I went to several places, I got a few more quotes, first $900, the other was $1300. Other two place, the boss wasn't there, and the workers just don't give a hoot. So I might have to try somewhere in Brooklyn NY. Going to give it 1 more try. |

There is a POA member locally that owns a bodyshop. He no longer owns a prowler, but had a black one that he rebuilt from salvage. He does excellent work matching paint. You may come out cheaper sending your bumpers to someone like him for painting. A1 Auto Repair & Collision Repair. Don Ward 832-717-4977. |

Went to another 3 body shops, all were in the same price range $1200. One of the owners told me that they charge $600 for bumpers, so $300 a piece, that's how they price out. I am no good taking the bumpers off. quote: |
