It's pretty depressing to know that most of the smiles I am getting while driving my Prowler are actually laughs.

I was once at a car show, and these people drove up in their Lamborghini. They came out of their car, and started to take pictures of the Prowler.

What I learned from reading this article, that the engine is from Town and Country, rather then the 300M.

I'm pretty sure you are being sarcastic here Gary. And this is what I mean about mis-information in these stupid articles by people calling themselves experts. To my knowledge, the 3.5 V6 was never used in the Town and Country until 2008. The generation of this engine, used in my cat, pretty much made it's debut in the prowler. It was used briefly in the 98 LHS but quickly made it's entry into the 300M and prowler in 1999.

Calling it a mini-van engine is just a tool for ignorant auto bloggers to embarrass themselves like this one did.

Great post RPL! I have 2 customized PT Cruisers and a2006 Chevy SSR. ( Yes I know how to pick winners). ALL of these vehicles have made someone's "worst of" list. I'm flattered! All 4 have been not only fun and garnered tons of lookers; they have been fun and dependable. Kudos to the engineers Chrysler and GM for having the guts to risk!! Boy did we get some great cars.

I expect the reason for the longer door on the passenger side was to encourage people to exit on the curb side of the car.

Look at original cars from the thirties and you likely see that there were only exterior lock cylinders on the passenger side doors, again to encourage exiting on that side.

As the article began with "after putting together our heads"...it is too bad they could not collectively come up with "one brain"! Also, it stated under the Bricklin that when one names a car after himself you should run...wonder who Ford was named after ??

well said Bob, well said...........

I was talking with the then President of Chrysler while walking around an employee car show. He said that the rare Chrysler muscle cars today were versions that didn't run well on the street and that they ended up driving as field cars before selling them to dealerships at a discount. What started the conversation was a Hemi Cuda on display. He said that he had several and that none of them ran well on the street. The car to have on the street was the 440 six pack. On the race track the Hemi was the car to beat. Many dealerships changed the front ends on Plymouth Superbirds after the cars sat in stock for over a year.

I can remember driving a large number of Shelby V-8 Dakota pickups. I had something like 50 to drive at least 500 miles. These were the first V-8 mid-sized trucks and quick for their time. I'd have the dealership clean and prep a red one and then do a white one until they were all gone.

I don't think that Prowler ever faced that fate. Prowler was in demand with the biggest issue being dealers that added additional profit on the MSRP. Did anyone here buy a Prowler new at a distressed price? Did anyone receive a large consumer rebate when they bought their new car?

Read the stories today in the automotive media about the aluminum bodied 2015 Ford F150. You'll find small mention that the team that built Prowler migrated to Ford to help with the change over to the aluminum body. Prowler was built for fun. It was built to test new materials and production processes.

I ran into a number of executives from GM while at Autorama just after the announcement was made to build the car. They were interested if indeed we were going to build the car. They asked about the resources that were committed to build the car. I told them the number of staff and the investment and tooling. Their reply was that you couldn't build a car for either the small number of people or low investment. I told them to keep thinking that way. Chrysler brought the car to market with those staffing restraints, investment and pricing.

Compare Prowler to the muscle cars. Compare it to the cars in it's price range as to performance. Running the quarter mile in around 14.9 seconds at 90 - 91 MPH was nothing to be ashamed of. It wasn't a race car. Compared to the cars available today with 600+ HP it looks slow. But viewed in perspective it was nothing to be ashamed of.

Who else has brought you a two-set roadster with an aluminum body for $40K. How many cars have held their value as well? What's a '97 Vette or a 2000 BMW worth today?

Remember that opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. Are you going to let anyone influence how you feel about the car you wanted and purchased? Did you buy it because you didn't like it? Why justify it, enjoy it. JMO

Notice , all the people who have posted negative reviews in magazines have NEVER owned a Prowler. I would say it would be hard to judge any car without ever owning it first.
