Has anyone been able to install in dash gps unit in their Prowler. There doesn't appear to be any mounting kits out there. Thought there may be a prowler owner that had success on installing one?? |

http://www.amazon.com/s?rh=n%3A3009001%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A3365386011%5Cc3365392011 keep in mind on these types of radios, that any add-ons are extra like if you want navigation its an extra module you have to add and buy to the radio. Best thing to do is go inside a Audio/Radio store and ask questions and all the features it comes with. |

I agree about going to an automotive audio store. The Kenwood KVT516 was only around $400, but to add NAV, Steering wheel kit, Harness, ipod cable, dash kit & labor it was around #1,300. There are units out there that are way cheaper, but I've allways subscribed to the You Get What You Pay For theory. But it eliminates the CD changer, and can use audio DVD custom made from iTunes. I just leave the screen out, but it does hit the shifter if you open or close in Park position. Would I do it again? Oh Yeah. BillyC This message has been edited by BillyC on 01-23-2015 at 12:18 PM |

Thanx guys for the input, my question pertains to the actual installation, there is what is called a dash kit, or mounting kit. It usually consists. of plastic pieces that hold the unit in the dash and make it look finished off. There is also an interface wiring harness that matches up the unit plugs and the factor wiring Billy C, if you had your unit installed by a shop, would you please give me the name of the shop, and contact info please. If you installed it yourself, it would be very helpful if you could answer the above question on installation kit, Thanks so much, Dan |

Metra 701817 - Harness Mera 40CR10 - Antenna Adapter SWi-RC pacc steering wheel interface I hope this helps BillyC |

when I got an after market radio, I lost my steering controls. I recently add this feature back and I should have done it when I changed out the radio at first time around. It gives you the steering wheel controls. |

Yes, that is the same one I listed that Car Toys installed. They charged $80 but they have them for much less on Amazon. But there is a ton of them. Not sure which one is the correct one. DrillinU - What is the model number? BillyC |

Many thanks to THIS and several others Forum entries! I was able to replace my factory Stereo plus new speakers all around (except for the subwoofer). I also had it installed at a local stereo store that had recently installed one in another Prowler. The wiring kit allowed it to tie into the Infinity Amp under the passenger seat. Save your back and find a Stereo Store that can handle the installation! For just the stereo and the steering wheels controls it took just over 2 hrs. installation time. Amazing! I was able to install all the speakers myself. Which is a good recommendation if you can handle it. That way, you can be sure that all the + and - speaker wires are correctly attached. I went with the following: Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-x8800BHS (Single-Din) This Pioneer Unit has a front AND a rear USB connection so I was able to route the supplied USB cable from the rear USB connection to the inside of center console so no wires are showing. This accepts an IPOD or a Flash Drive or iPhone or Android Phone. The front USB connection then charges my wife's iphone when she's in the car. (both USB connections can't be active media inputs at the same time.) The Pioneer Unit also supports Bluetooth connections to an iPhone or Android phone and allows connections to Pandora and Spotify built-in. Plus the radio portion supports HD Radio stations where available. It also supports SiriusXM with a separate Adapter. No Navigation, but my Android Phone has Google Maps and the voice comes through the speakers via Bluetooth. Pioneer also has an APP that can be used to control many functions of the radio, i.e. Equalizer, etc. NOTE: The Factory Stereo WAS the cause of the "engine whine" that I have had to deal with since I've owned the car in 2006. Yes, it would come and go. But you wouldn't hear it in 2nd gear or in reverse! One of the most obscure problems I've ever encountered. Everyone here said it was a ground problem. I now believe the ground problem was somewhere inside the factory radio.(IMHO) I'm very happy with the results. I hope this entry helps someone else down the road. Scott |
