Probably a premature email but sharing some info for now… With the new Prowler in the garage and my brother also having a new candy at the same time we have been on a quest to find someone to do the front suspension chroming… I can’t begin to tell you the number of chroming shops that would not even attempt it… I stopped counting at 12… That said, I simply gave up but my brother did not… He also wanted the rims re-chromed as both mine and his are flacking badly… Long story short, he found a place in CA (Mr. Chrome) That specializes in wheel chroming and has 40 years experience… He called them and asked if they can handle OEM Prowler wheels and they said they actually do them and keep a set on hand for an exchange program if needed (send you a completed set until yours arrive). You just pay a refundable extra amount upfront in case your set is damaged or never received. My brother got his 1st set back from them and they were GORGEOUS…. 10 star chroming job… He then called them back to send another set of wheels (mine) and asked about chroming the front suspension… They didn’t hesitate and said they can do it… Got word today that it’s all done (Wheels and front suspension for both Prowlers)… They ship tomorrow so I should have them back next week…. As an FYI on the pricing (as someone is going to ask) The wheels were $1600 for the 4 (not including shipping) $4500 for the suspension (not including shipping) Hopefully this info will help someone out someday if they are looking for the wheels or suspension redone… |

Thanks for the info Rich. I have some wheels that need a little attention also. I had been looking at mag wheels to replace the flaking factory ones. But I like the stock factory wheels better. |

What was their turn around time? |

The turn around time was very reasonable… My brother had the 1st set of wheels back in about 3 weeks (maybe a bit less)… FYI… I was shocked how well they did the inner drums of the wheels, especially the rears as the side seems to be an issue… They take the time to smooth out the welds and the inner drums are as perfect as the front… The total job (2 front suspensions and 8 wheels) will be slightly under 2 months… Additionally, we had about 30 other parts besides the suspension and wheels so the time line was fantastic IMO…. I will post some pics once I have them back… |

I just had my brother send me a quick pic of the rear drums so you can see the work they do… |

Rich, What was shipping to and from CA to PA? |

I’m not sure if I can provide an accurate shipping charge but I’ll see what my brother can provide… We had so much stuff, Ron the owner provided us his business FedEx label so we could get his business special rate… Everything about his services was 1st class…. I can say that the huge order we had was 2k total for shipping but that was for 16 boxes (8 boxes for just the wheels)… And using his special business rate… |

Ok… spoke to my brother His 1st round with shipping the wheels FedEx NJ to CA was $500 without having The business rate… That said, the $1600.00 for the wheel chroming included the return shipping Actual charge for the wheel chroming is $1200… |

1) Thats amazing that in 2004 they do that kind of work 2) That is an amazing price, especially for the wheels. 3) Can you list all the front suspension parts that they did for you ? Or better yet, what did they NOT chrome ? That is a lot if different parts to do. GREAT information! John |

Ditto on John's statements. That is amazing, and the shipping isn't terrible either. Looking forward to hearing more about the quality. |

I am so glad you have found someone that can chrome the front suspension. I still feel that is the best thing that can be done to the Prowler. Be sure to confirm that they are triple plating. The price seems to be very fair. Good Luck ------------------ |

We have all been SPOILED by having Gary for so many years… The products, service and cost cannot be measured for the Prowler community…. Goes without saying but I said it anyway… |

Also, I agree totally with Gary that the front end chroming is the best mod ever for the Prowler… As an FYI… They only do triple plated with a copper base… Ron said, anything less would not last or look as good. I will take pics for everyone once received…. I went into this with a bit of confidence as in 2015 I purchased an entire new front suspension as a back-up (that’s what he has that was chromed). This way, if the quality is poor or something goes wrong, I still have my original parts on the car with no worries…. Hoping this works out and hoping it helps others someday… |

Here are the Prowler wheels in the process of copper plating back when I had my wheels done many years ago. |

Wow… What a cool pic! I believe copper plating as the base is essential for true triple chrome (show chrome look and longevity). Thanks for sharing… |

Hey everyone… Front suspension and wheels arrived today…. I’m too tired to take pics so that is forthcoming…. That said, some good news and some not so good news… The wheels are spectacular…. 5 STAR PERFECT!!!! They look better than the originals and I can’t find a blemish on the outside or inside drums…. Front suspension (well, it certainly ain’t Gary’s)…. Gary’s chroming was every piece perfect… Gary provided show car winning chroming on every piece… What arrived, and As suspected, the upper and lower A-arms turned out not so great… I give them a B+ or B- depending if I’ve had a few beers yet… Many areas of pin-holes and such…. Ironically, the knuckle that is made of the same material as the A-Arms came out fantastic…. Over-all the The rest of the chroming was exceptionally done… The dreaded A-arms still remain substandard to What Gary did…. I do believe that once together, it will still be a looker but nothing beats Gary’s work. |

New update…. My brother spoke to Ron the owner and I must say he is a stand-up 1st class guy… My brother communicated that he was not satisfied on “some” of the A-Arm parts (everything else sent was fantastically done). Long story short he’s going to re-do the items we are not happy with.. No charge (even with shipping)… Hopefully, try #2 will be acceptable…. Stay tuned… Rich |

quote: Depending on which A Arms , the newer rough finished ones were hard for Gary’s chrome guy to get a good finish without spots that didn’t want to take the chrome process Was told it is in the manufacturing process and compounds maybe a silicone in the aluminum that made it difficult I was not happy with my chrome on my yellow car when I was holding it in my hand, but mounted on the car it really isn’t noticeable It’s not going to be perfect ------------------ |

Thanks for the response and info Larry… Both mine and my brothers are the newer rough surface…. 2 of the Lowers (1 of mine and 1 of my brothers) came out perfect… The other 6 had a large amount of pin holes in “spots” but not covered…. I am struggling with that maybe I am being to fussy about it as all the other pieces are fantastic…. That aside, I also need to calm down a bit and slow down on trying to get everything done in 1 season… I spent 5 years in getting the last Prowler where I wanted it and now I find myself trying to mimic the same in a few months…. I have to remind myself that I have a Prowler in the garage and that’s the big win… |
