This winter will bring some xtreme changes to the Hellkat... The artist has been wanting to repaint the car and I finally gave in to him. Travis painted the car almost 4 years ago when he was 22 and has been asking me to give him the opportunity to do it over again. I have watched his abilities improve greatly and there is no denying that he can far surpass what is currently on the car.
This is a very hard decision for me, I love the current paint, more now that ever, but 50,000 miles have brought many rock chips as I refuse to park it, it is driven nearly every day between April and November, rain or shine. and yes, there will be some fire and skulls...

Other than paint we are going to try some body modifications that will be unique to this car. I know there will be some that think it was best left the way it was.. but its what we as individules enjoy these wonderful cars that really counts, and making them our own is the "Juice"...

Hellkat will be in the shop mid-january and back to me all completed in March... I will gladly share pictures with you all at that time...

I have really appreciated all the compliments everyone has given the car over the years and I passed them all on to Travis as he is the guy that makes it happen..

Take 900 more pictures... as if there aren't enough already! ... and I'm sure the next paint job will WOW us all as much as this one has Jim.
He's an artist. Period.
You're lucky to have this guy.

I've been chatting with Travis, and he and I are thinking this pattern would look best on the 'new' HellKat:

Travis said it was a GO,,,,with the whole family, plus the dog, pictures included on the sides. After a little time, you will start to like it, and appreciate our decision

its hard to imagine how you could improve on your kats paint job. Its already a work of art just being a prowler and you have elevated it to a higher level with your existing paint.its is truly awesome as is. So it will be really interesting to see the new paint. My advice ( not that its worth anything and not that you asked for it) is to stay away from skulls. To me that would put it into a category of art that evokes a certain negative reaction. I'm think you will prove me wrong somehow.

Geno, Its embarrassing to admit how pictures of this car I have... in my defence, I have had it for 6 years..

I have talked to Travis and explained that the "Brady Bunch" theme is out.. he told me to tell you that he hope you are feeling better soon and that they straiten those meds out... get well soon AC !

Roger, I love to hear all the comments and thanks for the advice...I always tell Travis how much everyone likes the current look but he is a very modest young man and he starts doing the " aww shucks " ...

A little background on the current paint.... 4 years ago, I walked into the paint shop for the first time mostly because it was one block from work. All I wanted was to get the reflector in the headlights painted black.... They asked me if I was interested in some art work on the Prowler, They gave me a price I couldn't refuse so I told them I wanted Blue Fire Flames...I Dropped the car off on Friday... Monday Travis called me at work and said the Blue fire would look great but thought the real fire red/orange and yellow would look much better... I told him that he could paint the car like it was his own and he had full artistic freedom... he asked me about skulls, I said " whatever you think best "... the following Saturday they told me to come pick it up... that is 8 days later... they had taken the entire car apart, sanded, assembled, airbrushed and cleared the car... I had no idea what I was going to get...They did 3 all nighters... I was floored, speechless and very pleased...

This time I have offered some ideas but assured him that he will have total freedom to do whatever he wants... He will do multiple themes and the artwork will be much more extensive... out to the edge but not over, it will not be for the faint of heart, it will be extreme and it will be all the work of a very tallented young man who has become a great friend... yes, I am very lucky..

Can attest that the current paint work looks much more impressive in person than it does on line. Can't wait to see the "next" version too!

...I've always liked it the way it is, but I also understand changing it...when you do change, do something completely different, a drastic color change, graphix change etc etc...make it a completely new car...my plan with the "Tangelo Kat" was to repaint it every two years, but I ended up liking it so well I doubt I will ever change it again...it was going to be "SLime Lime Kat" next, then "Steel Blue Kat"(mid 60s Vette color)and then "Coral Kat"

PS...I really like the yello/orange color on the new Mustangs the last year or so...it would look outstanding on a Kat too...then, flame it in pink, lime and purple

The only thing more amazing than the Prowler is all the people that drive them...
I am going to relay these comments to Travis today when I drop by the shop .. A very humble thank you.. I am never shy to help the other owners and it give me great pleasure to assist anyone in need, I think that is the spirit of this site and is evident every day. Without you all my kat as it is now, wouldn't exist. The support I found here gave me the confidence to buy it in the first place..

Thanks, Unfortunately the rock chips are overwhelming... if Travis painted it over and didn't change a thing I would be happy as I have never gotten tired of the fire but, the chips and some aluminum corrosion cannot be ignored any longer... I will put my trust in the artist and truely believe the new look will exceede the old..

Just an update on the progress so far. Thursday the car went into the paint shop to start the change. I went in on Friday to drop off some parts and discusss the work... The Hellkat was nearly dismantled and half of the parts were already sanded. The major items such as shaving the headlights and applying the louvers on the hood were settled. Then we got to the art work... Travis warned me that there would be lots of people that will prefer the original flames, he was concerned about this until I told him that the only 2 people that need to be happy about this new work is me and him... I have given Travis full control over what he does on the car, I gave him some vague ideas, but said if he doesn't use any of them then that is fine with me.

Make no mistake, it will be over the top... maybe to much for a lot of you, but it will absolutely the most art intensive Prowler most have ever seen....

I'm afraid that I won't like it and hellkat #1 will be gone forever. I think you should just have 2 prowlers Jim. The hellkat #1 and an experimental unit. Too late now though I guess.

I think Tom will come up here and get Travis to bring the Hellkat back from the dead... I have thought of buying another, unfortunately unless I win the lottery I will be a one kat guy..
