Just to bring everyone up to date ...

I've designed a chrome moulding, with an LED side light, to highlight the existing spear in Gary's Oval Panels.

Accent Chrome Moulding construction.
1) it is a professionally engineered and machined piece of slightly flexible chromed aluminum, with a profile which replicates the upper edge of the spear.
2) it has a pre-designed "cut out" for a designated side light.
3) it has a pre-drilled hole for the side light wire.
4) it has 5 threaded pins and bolts which attach the moulding firmly to the panel spear.

Last week I installed a prototype chrome mouldings in Gary's Oval Panels:
1) first the panel spear was taped to protect the paint during the sanding process.
2) the panel spear was then gently sanded down (approx. 1/4 inch) with a belt sander to provide a flat base for the chrome moulding.
3) 5 holes were drilled through the panel spear to accomodate the threaded pins.
4) an extra hole was drilled through the panel spear for the side light wire.
5) the chrome accent moulding was bolted to the panel spear.
6) the side light was attached to the moulding, and the wire was connected to the electrical.

To summarize, the installation process is a fairly simple DIY process for anyone with a belt sander and a drill.

The finished cost of the chromed set was $455 USD, and the chrome side lights were $20 each.

Incidentally, if anyone else is interested in purchasing a set, just send me a PM ASAP.

Last but not least, I've been unable to post pictures, so Robin has kindly agreed to post them for me on this thread.

Please read on .....
1st picture is the chrome accent moulding, laying on the panel, before installation in the panel.
2nd picture is a close up of how the side light fits into the cut out of the moulding.
3rd picture is the accent moulding installed in my panel.

Cheers,
Terry

They can be installed on the Oval Panel even after you have had them painted. They can be masked off around the spear before sanding so it will not affect the paint that has been done prior. A good body man can sand without any damage to the existing paint that surrounds the spear.

GREAT JOB TERRY !

I approve this mod!

When I did MY Side Panel Modification and Chrome Spear the TGF Panels were not available from Gary. So this is a great looking alternative.

Not sure why this is posted under "Off-Topic" discussion though.. You might get more interest under Classified... with a different title...such as ... TGF side panel modification....just sayin.

Thanks for the "2 Thumbs Up" Scott,

Just to let you know, my inspiration actually came from viewing your panel modification.

I loved your idea, and decided I wanted to create a chrome accent moulding for my oval panel also.

Cheers,
Terry
