Those new wheels look really good. They set the car off, for sure.

That looks great with the new wheels and tires....

I wouldn't put a black top in there, it looks so good with the white top. Think I would make it safe to drive and just have fun.

This car is very close to being completely original other than the Emron repaint that was done to it sometime in the 1990's.
The car was originally Regal Red with Black interior and Top according to the Trim Tag/Data Plate from the factory.

As nice as a White Top looks on the car, I will most likely go with a Black one if I still have the car when it needs replaced.
This would be beneficial from a maintenance point of view as well as being correct to the originality of the particular car.

Those wheels made a big difference.

Thanks Rich.
Those wheels are 40 years old, they have simply been cleaned up. They were not all that bad when I got them, but I wanted them cleaned up before they went on a car.

I added another one to the collection in December and am going to look at yet another tomorrow.

This is a 1964 Corvair Greenbrier Deluxe Van which is awaiting an evaluation before I sink untold amounts of cash into it.
The goal is to replace my AWD Astro Van and S-10 Pick Up and have a presentable utility /collector vehicle that is reliable.
This van is essentially an original survivor that still has some factory paint left on it.

This is the car I am looking at tomorrow. It is a 1967 Corvair Monza convertible that I worked on 40 years ago.
The owner passed about twenty years ago and it has been sitting neglected in a pole building until this past summer.
A friend acquired it along with another Corvair as a package deal and has given me the first opportunity to look at it.
What is left of the paint is all original so there are no hidden rust or bondo to worry about.
The Red one has rust and bondo issues that I was aware of when I bought it. The Red one I bought in July will be moving on if I move forward with this car.
Now that I have sold the Prowler, I can afford a better quality example which is why I will consider the yellow one.

I went and looked at the Yellow one yesterday and found it to be a good solid car overall but....

It sat for twenty years and will need a lot of work to get it on the road.
Since I already have several vehicles in that condition, I really can't justify purchasing it.

It would be a much better car in the end than the red one I already have if I wanted to have a "Forever" example.

In the past 24 hours I have gone back and forth in my mind as to weather I want to purchase it or not and why, but have not yet made a decision.

I am trying to make this decision based on reality rather than on emotion.
In the end, I will probably procrastinate just long enough that I won't need to decide and the car will find another home.

At this moment, building a usable garage to work on and keep the vehicles I already have should be my priority.

Andria, this is so funny! You are trying to be rational about buying and / or owning one of the worst engineered cars out there! A rear-engined, air-cooled, pivot side-shaft, bad handling lump that was made in every variation that would sell to consumers at the time. Now, it is an icon and a very sought-after marque, but not likely to become a Roll-Royce challenger, right? So, if it moves you, buy it! No amount of cogitating and logic will make this right. Have money, have love, have addiction, have interest? Buy it. We all love our children, never mind that they cannot jump, dance, swim, somersault, run or win a spelling bee. :-)

It's about how many kids you want and can afford to take care of. LOL Of course you love them after you get, but sometimes can't wait for them to move on.

This sounds like some of the writeups you see about the Prowler....

Actually the Corvair is the only car ever proven to be "Safe" in a court of law.
The issues pointed out by those looking to make a name for themselves had already been addressed and corrected before any controversy began.

The Corvair was originally scheduled to be discontinued in 1967 when the Camaro was introduced.
Production continued in part because GM as I understand it, did not want the public to think they succumbed to the accusations which is why they continued through the 1969 model year.

The later cars had a fully independent four wheel suspension that was essentially identical to the 1963 -1982 Corvette.

I have been involved with these vehicles since 1973 and have heard more than several uninformed inaccurate statements regarding them than I can recall.

Anymore, I simply let these folks believe what they want to since there is no changing their minds regardless what the actual facts may be.

Here is a quote to consider from a respected automotive publication.

"National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 1972 report, which found that the 1960-1963 Corvair’s rear suspension didn’t substantially lead to a loss of control, nor did the Corvair pose any more of a risk for rollover accidents than comparable compact cars."

Here are links to some more recent articles regarding the Corvair for those who may be curious.

http://altdriver.com/classics/corvair-chevrolet-ralph-nader-unsafe-at-any-speed/
http://www.motorbiscuit.com/the-corvair-the-misunderstood-revolutionary-chevy/

P.S.
Over the years, especially when I was younger, I drove many of my Corvair's much more aggressively than I ever drove my Prowler during a dozen years of ownership.
Today, I would still say that a late model Corvair in 100% stock form (as new) would probably do better on a curvy road with a washboard surface than the stock (as new) Prowler would.

Corvair's to this day continue to be successfully campaigned in Road Racing events as they were when they were new.
IF they were truly dangerous, this would likely not still be happening.

I like the Corvairs. Since I have Camaros always felt Corvair was a kissin cousin. The Pancake 6 was the closest thing engine wise to the Tucker. I'm a fan especially of the convertibles. I agree w/LD that the write up is a bit odd & somewhat disrespectful especially from a Prowler owner. The Prowler and Corvair have always gotten a bad rap...

On a somewhat related note, I need a gas tank for a Pinto.
Amazing how long rumors and misinformation lasts. Look at the Prowler and all of the bad press. How many folks realize a Prowler will break the 15 second mark in the 1/4? I am encouraged that some newer owners and automotive reporters are discovering how much fun they are to drive. The killer looks of the Prowler will survive for a long time.

y.

I find this rather funny...... I have done the same thing.... Really want it but...... try and talk myself out of it

My BIG regret is the 61 Corvette (have wanted since 1972)

The guy lived about 1 mile from my house, was a great driver condition car, priced right and I was the 1st to look at it when it came out in the paper.

Looked at it on Wednesday and was back and forth do I really want to spend the money.... Saturday decided if he still had it would try and make a deal on it..... He sold it Thursday. Seen one that could have been the same car a week later in a car corral at the Kruse auction in Auburn for $10,000 more than he was asking

KICK ME NOW

As much as I hate lite blue if it was a light blue white top and interior 140 hp 4 speed, I might have been interested...... tried to buy one when I was 14 but dad wouldn't let me pay $125 and Mr. Harper wouldn't take $100 ...... LOL

I called my friend with the Yellow convertible today and let him know I can't justify buying it at the moment.

Building a decent garage and finishing the current projects I have undertaken need to be a priority.
I will try to keep from taking on any more for a while but can't guarantee I won't.

I decided the 15X7 wheels and the 205/65R15 tires were a bit to large for the Corvair so I replaced them with a set of 14X5-1/2 wheels and 185/70R14 tires that will probably work out better. As you can see, I went with a whitewall this time.

I'll probably put the 15X7's on the Corvair van I bought back in December but that won't be for a while yet.
