I do browse the Facebook Marketplace and a Corvair Marketplace group once in a while. Yesterday afternoon I saw a 1972 Corvette that appeared to be complete but hadn't run in a few years locally for two grand. I really don't understand the logic behind posting anything on a forum like Facebook or craigslist late in the day and then say it must go the same day. |

Update to this thread....Here is a photo of the Corvair Greenbrier Van I bought back in 2021. I have driven it over 4,000 miles since getting it on the road in January 2023 including one 1,300 mile round trip to Georgia and back a few month's ago. Yes, I did put the 15" Western Bullett wheels on it that were initially on the red convertible. They work well on the van and get lots of compliments as they are rarely seen these days. |

Those look great on that car. Beautiful. I thought of you this week when my feed came up with this Article. Like the Prowler, the Corvair was a technology marvel. People forget that. http://www.motortrend.com/news/1960-chevrolet-corvair-the-most-technologically-advanced-american-car/ John |

OK all, here is the reason I bumped this thread.....I did it again and Yes, Still no decent Garage to put these vehicles in. What can I say, I am a Caraholic4life which is my user ID on the Corvair forums and e-bay. I made a commtment to buy one of my old cars back yesterday. Many here have heard me mention that I had a Mid Engine V8 Corvair from about 1983 until 1999 then sold it..... The car was treated relatively poor during the first year after I sold it. His son contacted me Friday after tracking me down wanting more information on the car so he could be better informed when trying to sell it. I made arrangements to see the car yesterday (Saturday) and made a commitment to purchase it. Yes, it got scraped up and dirty sitting all those years but it was once much nicer....hopefully it will be again. With some luck, I should complete the deal and have it home by this coming weekend..... This message has been edited by alrtg on 07-07-2024 at 06:41 AM |

quote: When I initially gt the car in 1983 it had a 1966 327 engine that was worn out. I cleaned it up, rebuilt the stock Quadrajet carburetor, put the 1966 center dump cast iron exhaust manifolds on it and ran a 1970's GM F body dual inlet/outlet muffler so the car was quiet. It served it's purpose while I had the car. Even though the kid that bought it put a different intake, carburetor, exhaust etc... on the car, I suspect it is still the same 305. After cleaning the dirt off of and out of it, I plan to get it running and check the compression before I do much else to it. Only time will tell what will happen. How hot does the interior get with that engine in back seat area? Would guess it is covered & insulated My favorite body style is the 65/69 convertible then 2 door hardtop |

quote: Back when I was 25 to 40 years younger, I never noticed it was any warmer inside the car than any other Corvair I had. Yes, I did insulate the engine cover with Foil Backed Rigid HVAC Duct material that came in sheets that I cut to size. I made the engine cover out of 0.40" sheet aluminum. The insulation went on the inside of the Aluminum. On the outside of the Aluminum, I used 1/4" Luan Plywood that had 1/8" padding that was then covered with a Vinyl Material to closely match the stock seats at the time. One thing I will need to work on this time around is sealing the engine cover better as it does tend to get a bit noisy inside under acceleration. |

Congrats!! I dig the white letter out and the wheels are great!! Don’t rush, I’m going crazy trying to find more stuff to play with on my car. Once it’s built, it’s built. It looks great and I’m excited to see what you do with it. This message has been edited by cdeluca99 on 08-26-2024 at 04:30 AM |

When I sold the car it still had a matching fifth wheel with a never used Goodyear GT radial on it....In the 25 years since I sold the car, the matching spare went missing. The tires still look good but they are 34-35 years old so once I get the car roadworthy, it will likely get a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A Raised White Letter tires since they are what is available. I could buy 17" wheels that look like the ones on the car but don't want rubber band tires. |

Stick with your ideas with the BF GOODRICH white letter out. 17”s mmmmm I ain’t a fan of newer style wheels on older cars. I love what you have already it’s beautiful and flows well with the car. Keep up the good work! And keep us posted too |

I had scheduled this week off from work so I could attend this convention but never made reservations. The host hotel had what I considered an unacceptable reservation policy. They wanted the room paid for 100% in advance with NO Cancellations, date changes, or refunds for any reason. I am glad I never made a reservation as I got a severe sore throat the week prior to the event and actually took a couple personal days and three vacation days from work. P.S.
