In March it was time to replace Katie's 2013 Toyota Sienna minivan. Much to my surprise, when asked, she said she wanted a Jeep- oh and it needs to be electric. To make sure I finally got her out of a minivan (22 years worth) I quickly made a few calls, talked to a few folks who I highly regard, and pulled the trigger on a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xE Summit. Eight months into the endeavor we couldn't be more pleased. Noah drove it to work and back (6 miles round trip) for the first few months until Katie returned from FL. He plugged it in when he got home and it was fully charged by the next morning. Basically ran in 100% electric mode throughout the week. No discernible increase in the electric bill. I do use the supplied type 1 charger and it does take 8-12 hours to fully charge depending upon battery levels when started. In e-saver mode on the highway it takes about 3 hours to go from no charge to fully charged. Its actually a little faster "off highway" as we use more regenerative braking. The vehicle is quiet, well appointed, and runs surprisingly well in hybrid mode utilizing both the 4 cylinder turbo gas and two electric motors. It's quick, not trackhawk quick, but pretty darn fast. The Jeep sits outside in FL and i had to purchase an extension for the charging cord. That just happened last week, so we'll see how that works out for Katie. All in all, a great vehicle. In my opinion, HYBRID is the way to go...for now. Fuel economy wise its getting about 30-40 mpge depending upon around town or highway. That's about 20-30 mpg better than the vehicle parked in front of it.

I'm sure it won't run all the time, especially when no cars are charging, but I would bet if 4 cars are charging at same time it would running. If it has to run at all it is kinda defeating the purpose.

Nothing like putting a generator in a place that will never need it!! lol Sounds like Congress is in charge of this project.
I guess gas prices will go up again to make sure we can push those EVs, due to savings on operating costs for us peons. Create demand for EVs.

An all electric RAM Pickup complete with a v-6 gasoline powered generator. At least you won't run out of juice or have to sit in the "Tesla" line at the charging station...

Well we have a 2019 Tesla Model 3. No problems, seems to be as safe and reliable as any other car of those years. Yes mileage between charges could be better but here in S Texas we’re seeing Teslas from NY, California, Oregon, basically every state. I haven’t talked to any Tesla owner who was disappointed. Lots of Tesla / EV haters out there. You can find any type of news story you want now days. Just because some reporter reported something doesn’t mean it’s completely true. In my opinion we’re not ready for all cars to be electric but it is a good alternative for some people. Better batteries & longer mileage ranges will come in time. There are some great EVs and Hybrids out there. Keep an open mind.

Well I must admit the pictures don’t do it justice. It’s uglier in person. If you can just ignore the looks the state of the art technology & craftsmanship is amazing. It’s not a small truck. Right now it gets more attention than the Prowler. You can park it in the Wall Mart parking lot & you can find it. Just look for a crowd of people If you’re lucky enough to get one now there are people who will pay you far more than you paid for it. One day, not in my lifetime, this truck will be one of those rare collector vehicles. Tesla provided their engineers with these trucks for daily drivers. That way they could make changes & work out the bugs. I came across this truck at Buc-ee’s in Fort Worth, Tx. We pulled into the lot to charge Joyce’s Model 3. The driver was a Tesla engineer who worked at Tesla in California. He had driven to Florida to spend the Holidays with family. He was on his way back to California. It was really interesting talking with him. Would I buy one? If I could get past the looks I would. I’m still kinda not sure what it is I saw. 👀 I guess it’s kinda like a real ugly man or woman. Once you can get past their looks you find a heart of gold. 💛

Smart move, stand next to it so you look better, in comparison. lol That thing reminds me of a tank, really. Not a fan at all. Surely they can come up with a much better looking body. I guess it is like the Hummer and people just want something that is different and draws attention.

All I keep hearing is how great America is yet we fight innovation, the same innovation that made us world leaders. Gates, Jobs, Bezo’s, Musk; they all beat the odds and prevailed. That’s American innovation wether you agree or not.

As for the explosion video; yeah we have never seen a gas powered car explode. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Gas will go the way of the 8-track although I bet there are some that still embrace that technology.

Bring on the 🔥🔥🔥🔥😆

You asked for flame well here goes. First and foremost, gas powered cars were not being forced down our throats. They are actually trying to pass laws that will make gas powered vehicles illegal. Second EV’s are supposed to help the environment. What is the effect on the environment to mine all the materials to make the batteries. How are all the batteries going to be disposed off or will we have huge waste dumps full of batteries leaking who knows what into the earth. I could be wrong but I don’t think a gas powered car has spontaneously caught fire while parked. Maybe when it was being started or running. I saw a video the other day. If a gas powered car catches fire it can be put out with the water supply carried on the fire truck. If an EV catches fire they need acces to a water hydrant because the fires burn much hotter. What is the ratio of gas powered vehicles catching fire to the total on the road compared to the EV’s.

Bottom line I have nothing against EV’s when we are ready for them. I just don’t want some whacked out bureaucrat telling me what I can and cannot be driving. Especially when their reasons for doing it are based on lies and misinformation etc. Let technology and its support structure evolve at a sane and safe pace as it has all through history.

Rebuttal, lol

As for laws by some whacked out bureaucrats..... Yeah, I kinda felt the same way with overturning Roe vs Wade but that's the way it works in the US. I won't be around to worry about it and we should be more concerned with what we leave behind for the next generation, not being selfish about ourselves. The younger generation is more embracing of this technology. That said we will all be able to enjoy our gas guzzlers for quite awhile yet. I see this as a 20-30 year changeover.

The way I see this trending across the globe leaves me with only one thought. We can either lead or just be Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay

This car looks like every other high end sports car out there today. The only thing you can do is maybe change the body color. The only other thing you can do is enjoy the performance & that’s mind boggling. If your rich & into speed this is your car. I would like to drive one but it’s not really my type of car to own. Even though we own an EV, which is a great car, it’s just a generic, get in & drive car. It looks like every other EV out there. As a mater of fact all the cars look like every other car out there. My generation fell in love with the sound, the smell, the looks of a gas’s guzzling, oil leaking, fire breathing car that you could work on. You have to make a blood sacrifice or it wouldn’t run right. No fixing anything any more. You just replace the part that the computer says to replace. Well anyway enough of days gone by.
I am however amazed of how fast these vehicles are.

Amazing car. The power and speed is mind blowing. More of a status symbol than anything else.
