My son and I installed the splashguards (front and rear) today. The rear ones were a piece of cake, but the front ones needed some trimming. After we installed the front splashguards, we tested them out on our driveway (we couldn't drive it on the road because it's Winter over here) and I decided that they need to be trimmed because they hung too low. They scraped the ground while the car idled across a one-inch drop in the driveway! So I trimmed one inch off the bottom of each splashguard. Instead of making a straight cut across the bottom, we maintained the curvature of each splashguard. After we trimmed each splashguard, we used 360 wet/dry sandpaper and smoothed and rounded off the edges to look like they just got out of the factory. Here's a picture, what do you guys think?

There has been a lot of debate....to trim or not to trim. Personally I kept mine long but it does require a lot more care when going over bumps or changes in road surface.

3 1/2 years and 17,000 miles with full lenght mud flaps.

As Dave said this has been discussed at GREAT lenght, hehe.

It is all a matter of personal perference. Some severe damage has been done due to the tire pinching the flap and bending the brackets or cracking the fender.

GREAT COLOR CAT

I also trimmed mine to original curvature. I have a few chips down low but not many, at 14,000 miles. I think I only took off 3/4 inch.

Thanks everyone, after getting my Prowler in December I did a search and found there was about a 50/50 split on what to do. When I first read that splashguards were recommended I thought they wouldn't look very good , I was happy to see they didn't hurt the looks at all.

WARNING - Trim your front splash guards about 1"!

If you don't when you go into a driveway or garage a little lip in the pavement will bop your fendor off like nothing.

In case you are wondering it is $1000 to replace one fendor.

I have had my Cat for 3 1/2 years and it only has 7500 miles on it, so you can tell I don't take it out a lot. Those tires pick up a lot of small stones. You can here them rattle around the fenders. Without the guards, every one of those stones will hit the body. I drove my Cat the first year without splash guards.......BIG Mistake! I would advise you to put them on, they do save the sides of the car.

The main reason to have front splashguards is to divert debris and to protect the paint on the side of the car. I believe it wll stop rocks from hitting the back fender as well. The back fender already has a black rubber protector but I think rocks can still hit it. Rocks and crap can still be on paved streets. You don't need them if your 'significant other' walks in front of the car with a broom. The first thing we purchased for pumpkin was splashguards based on the suggestion of a fellow Prowler owner.

Dave is right - I hear stones rattling around the fenders now that I never heard before I installed the front flaps.

Question - some have advised that they sliced the flap from the top to the bolt hole in all three locations just in case it got pulled down. Has anyone been saved by this trick?
