Hi Guys,
I am the new owner of a 2002 Yellow Prowler. I have just received the front mud flaps and I have read all the pros in taking an inch off the bottom of the front flaps. I am just wondering what is the best tool to use in cutting the front flaps while retaining the smooth edge on the bottom. Thanks.

Joseph, place one flap on top of the other and decide how high up you want to cut. Take an exacto knife or other type of razor blade to cut it using the flap as a guide to keep the same shape. Then use the first one to cut the second flap.

Many trim them, many do not, there is no right or wrong here....I have put over 40K miles on different Prowlers and never trimmed one yet....depends alot on where you drive....my miles are mostly interstate/hi-ways....and city streets to some extent....rarely do they even touch anything except the occasional speed bump...bottom line is, my current Kat has road rash even with the flaps at full length....but I do drive this one year round...summer, snow/salt/sand etc etc....try them uncut first, you can always trim them later...just avoid speed bumps.....actually, my flaps have worn themselves off a little bit on the bottom from the things they touch, but have never damaged anything...good luck and DRIVE IT !!!

I left my mud flaps at full length.

Just turn the stereo up so you dont hear them scrape

Actually I take bumps slow and havent had any problems. YET!

JM,

You're aware that there's a 1" to 2" adjustment on the fender? Have you moved it all the way forward before deciding to trim?

Need to make sure that someone with the good sense to get THE BEST COLOR EVER knows about this.

Loosen the bolts on the brackets. Not the bolts on the fender but on the back of the wheel. Rotate it forward.

I've always belived in Trimming splash gaurds. But after waxing my Black (the VERY BEST PROWLER COLOR EVER){too you Growl} I have "Flip Flopped" and no longer recommend TRIMming. Take your chances...If you MUST trim..avoid RAZOR knifes at ALL COSTS!! Use tin snips.

Play Safe,,

Ed,

Years ago..long before I ever had Jack to look out for me..I was cutting the plastic off some thick electrical wiring with a RAZOR KINFE and....OUCCCCH!!!!!
Off to the hand doctor I went!

I guess if you are REALLY, REALLY careful, a razor knife would be ok..but tin snips worked VERY well for me.

The thread you're looking for was originally posted in the General Discussion Forum (forum 1) and was moved to Technical Questions and Answers (forum 2). Once a thread is moved, it will eventually be deleted from the original forum, which was the case with the link above. Unfortunately there is no way to update old links, but if you use the search function, you should find what you're looking for.

Here's the moved thread: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000684.html

BTW, It's bolt "A". Actually there are two bolts on each fender. Loosen the bolts and slide the fender forward to your liking.

Loosen the bolts marked "A" and move the brackets. A lot easier with the tires off of the car.

I used to hit on speed bumps every so often so to save my sanity and my fender, I cut about 3/4 of an inch off. No problem doing it and no more problems hitting anything. Still protecs the side of the car.

My first Kat came with front Mudflaps! I never realised how good they worked until i got my new one without them!! I won't cut anything off mine, thats why i put them on to protect the car. It wasn't for looks. I put rears on also, and it keeps the bumpers clean. Not that many speed bumps here in CT

If you get rid of the back bumpers you won't need the rear mud flaps!
