I've been having troubles with my passenger side turn signal. It works sometimes....and sometimes it flashes fast in the rear, but nothing in the front. heres what I know... its not a bulb its not a bulb socket... its not a side light problem... its only the front.... the emergency flashers work fine... could it be the flasher relay up by the steering wheel just affecting one side ? I don't know how to use a multi meter... If anyone has some ideas it would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks Jim This message has been edited by halicat on 07-10-2006 at 04:45 PM |

I was having a similar problem but in the rear. It turned out to be a loose plug in the wiring harness near the rear of the car. The only way we found it was to to trace the wiring harness back from the lights. We fixed the plug and now my lights are fine. |

There is a thread someone made a while back compiling everyone's troubles on one thread. I posted mine there (page 3 I think). I had the same problem with my 97. I think they said it was a short in the harness. Fixed under warranty so I don't know what they did. But I believe they told me it was a harness short. I think a couple others have had this problem as well. Good luck. (DC reimbursed me for the bulb I bought that didn't fix the problem.) |

quote by Mike,,,years ago: The Body Control Module (BCM) is programmed to sense the current from the running lights, turn signal/stop light bulbs and flashes rapidly if there is a problem. It will also illuminate both turn signal indicators on the dash when the turn signal is not on. It's programmed that way to let you know if your bulbs have gone bad or if there is a wiring problem. The tail lights and front turn signal bulbs both have two filaments, one for running lights and another for turn signals and in the case of the tail lights both running lights and turn signal/brakes. Go outside the car and check both front and back turn signals left and right and I would bet that one of the bulbs is bad if not, you either have a wiring problem or the BCM is defective. The same holds true for the TGF bumper delete kits (I have second generations and they do it). There are LED's in place of the front bumper lights and the indicators and turn signals will flash rapidly because the LED's draw less current and they don't use the running lights. The Tom Mills and Real Rod kits utilize stock bulbs and will act normally. Perhaps TGF has recently changed theirs, so maybe Norm or Bob will jump in and let us know. ------------------ *********************************************************** Also: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000118.html ********************************************************** Let's help this poor soul out!!! Hali, Check the harness and plug on the front signal that does not work when the problem occurs. Remove the bulb and make sure the socket is not corroded. try plugging in the other side into the bad side(I think the fronts will reach) and see if that side starts working. If you plug the other side in and it works the problem would be in the bumper wiring /socket/bulb. Or you could just sell it on ebay and get one with lights that work! |

Hali, I'll take a stab at this. I would check any and all ground straps for corrosion at the place of contact (bolt, screw or clips) you may have one that is loose or not getting good contact somewhere could even be disconnected. Check all of them everywhere. It is time consuming but doesn't cost anything and it just might work. Good luck. This message has been edited by Kruisin Kat on 06-27-2006 at 04:22 PM |

i know you say its not the bulb but replace it and see what happens.sometimes the filament will be broken on one end, pull the bulb and hold it buy the base, flick the bulb w/your finger while watching the filament,if its loose you will see it move. ------------------ |

Good luck with the do-it-yourself portion of the 'fix' ... mine did this a long while ago and it was the bulb had come out of the holder in the side panel but still in the socket and broke the filiment while dangling inside the engine compartment. I didn't notice because I don't 'see' the side of the car flasher when turning. Replaced bulb and was fine ... Please share your results and hopefully you can avoid the dealership ... just ask Red5 about this too! |

If all that fails, run a new wire from the back turn signal flashing light. Turn the signal on and test which wire is the hot one that is flashing and run it to the front. Just a easy fix if you do not want to take it to the dealer. I HATE TAKING MINE IN! |

halicat - sorry I missed this post earlier. What year is your car? There are two 97s in my area with a similar problem. Sometimes the front DRL is on and sometime not. Sometimes the front single light works, sometimes not. ( I can't remember if it was the driver or passenger side) Since two cars had the exact same problem and both are Canadian cars - I expected that the problem is the DRL module but have not yet dug into the problem further. - idive - could your 97 have been a "Canadian" car. -- TonyG |

Hi Tony, thanks for the info... mine is a 2000 , i think it may be the flasher relay. I'm going to replace it this week and will post my results......maybe the daytime running module is the culprit... keep me posted if you find anything out... Jim |

Tony - My 97 is not a Canadian car. I bought it new from a local dealer. It was 1 of 5 delivered to Houston around July or August 97, along with Mr. K's 97. (With a build date in August, I guess it wasn't delivered in July... LOL) This message has been edited by idive on 07-07-2006 at 11:24 PM |
