Got some more info for you regarding the TPMS module/receiver

’97-’01 TPMS module is part number 4815-227-AB…. Walk-in retail should be about $232

’02 TPMS module is part number 4815-227-AE…. Walk-in retail should be about $166

So if this conversion works, you could be saving $314, not including tax/shipping/etc.

As long as no extreme changes happened to the 2002 instrument gauge cluster or ECU programming, this could work. I have heard of people swapping TPMS systems in other Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge models, so I believe it is a fairly simple system to work with.

Here is another response from Tire Rack. 4/ 16/07 The sensors cost is over $140.00 each. At $155.00 each, Tire Rack is doing the Prowler Club a great service by getting these sensors to us at this rate.

Please see the response I received from Scott concerning converting older Prolwers to 433MHz.

Scott is willing to Loan out four sensors to convert your Prowler to 433MHz. If it works you will have to pay for the sensor. If it doesn't just return the sensor. Scott would be willing to help us out.

It also seems that replacing the receiver could solve the problem. If I owned a Prowler, I would try it myself. The cost of the receiver was only about $200 online and The Tire Rack would be willing the loan out four 52088990AC sensors. If it works, buy the sensors. If it doesn’t, just mail them back. I’m sure the dealership would also take back a receiver you buy from them… It’s worth a shot.

Here is an update to this post. I just received an email from my Tire rack representative.

On sensor # 4815-132-AB, the lowest I can go is $155.00

They are still extremely expensive (and have actually gone up in price) and the retail walk-in cost is still between $189-$204.

My Chrysler contact said he can get 700 sensors within a week, so about two-three weeks to get to you and your fellow Prowleronline.com club members.

I just read the thread you posted about the sensors, and I will look into the swapping of 433MHz receivers into the early models… That is actually a great idea, but no guarantees that it will work. What was different with the 2002’s? Any difference in ECU programming or instrument panel configuration?

I have been in contact with Schrader-Bridgeport concerning tire pressure sensors for the Prowler.

They had Tire Rack contact me, and here is the latest email I received from them. The good news is, if you have a 2002 Prowler the tire sensors are in stock for $35.00 each. The not so good news, if you have any other year Prolwer the tire sensors are different and the estimated cost for these sensors will be some where around $139.00 each. This price is not locked in concrete, but it looks like it is going to be close to that price.

I will keep everyone posted on the updated pricing.

2002 Prowler uses OE part number: 52088990AC…. Retail customer cost is $35.00 each, and then the valve nut is $3.50 each. We have plenty of this sensor in stock.

The sensors are not the same, nor are they interchangeable. The 4815-132-AB sensor runs at 315MHz, while the 52088990AC runs at 433MHz. Both are made by Schrader.

FYI: no 1998 Plymouth Prowler

When I put aftermarket wheels on my Prowler, the sensors wouldn't fit. I just put a piece of electrical tape over the dashboard light and got in the habit of looking at my tires regularly when I was getting in and out of the car.

I realize many of you don't use your car as a primary vehicle and want to keep it "as good as new". As someone without unlimited monetary recourses to spend on my car, I just decided there were other things I could buy for the car with that much money.

I hope you all find a less expensive alternative.

Great work! I am interested in the "old" sensors if they cost less then $50..... or I would like to attempt to update my TPMS module in the dash to the newer module. Can someone with 2001+ Prowler open the dash and get a Part # for the "new" TPMS module?

ONE thing to mention. I believe the old style sensors last twice as long (10 years instead of 5 yrs)? The base of the old style sensor is twice the size (two batteries) compared to the newer ones.

Since I nurse my car, and check the air often enough. I don't think I need a "wife light" to tell me the tires are low on air.

I removed the dash (easy to do) and I think I have located the TPMS module. I got two part numbers off the module:
2757 82150
4815227AB

I will try to confirm that this is in fact the TPMS module. If so I am going replace mine with a "newer" model if it is finacially easier?

Can someone confirm on a 2001+ Prowler if the TPMS has the same connector? The connector has six tiny pins that are in the shape of a six pack if you were looking down on it:

PS - Popping of the top part of the dash takes 20 seconds. simpley grab the dash all the way up by the where the winsheild meeting the dash in one corner (by the VIN # plate on the driver side) and give it a slight pull. The one side will pop out...then do the same for the oppsite side. Might need the steerign wheel all the way down to get the dash out. It make the dash easy to clean once it's out.

4815227AB is the part number for the Tire Pressure Module (TPM)for 1997-2001. The part number has been replaced by Part# 4815227AD. List Price $212

For the 2002 model the Tire Pressue Module Part# 4815227AE. List Price is $166 => Mopar Super Center POA discount price $109.

I will attempt to install the new 2002 Dynamic TPM in my 1997 to see if it works.... so stay tuned.

The new TPMS (Part# 4815227AD) does plug into the connector on the old TPMS plug. The new & the old untis are the same size and look the same (except for the Part#). I will post pics.

Now I have to see if the new TPMS will work with the on board computer....I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow.

The dealer was able to register all four TPS with the "new" style TPMS. Therefore, I suggest everyone with a 1997-2001 Prowler convert to the "new" TPMS (Tire Pressure Module Sensor) & TPS (Tire Pressure Sensor) when needed.

The new TPMS Part# 4815227AD is $109 from the Jeff Hunter at the www.moparsupercenter.com works with TPS Mopar Part number 4815-227-AE or Schrader-Bridgeport Part #20028.
