The Transmission Sensors: How many are there? Where are they located? Approx Cost? At what milage have they been going out? I only have 17,000 miles. And finally, can an old man replace them easily by himself beside the road? Any input will be helpful!
Thank you
Road Kat

There are 2, 1 input and one out put, I think I paid about $5.00 Canadian for each of mine, mine went a couple of weeks ago at 55,000 miles and 10 years old.

You will need a 1" deep socket to get at these, they are both on the drivers side of the tranny, it took me about 20 minutes on the side of the road without jacking up the car.
Hope this helps, Eric.

I don't think there is any average mileage as to when they are failing.

Brother Tom,,,,,

Go to a NAPA auto parts store near you,,,,

tell 'em you need one INPUT sensor, and one OUTPUT sensor, for a Prowler. Should run around $20.00 each. Keep in car!

If one should fail during the Devil's Highway 666 event,,,,I'll change it for you > that's what Masonic Brothers are for

A one inch (1") 'deep socket' will remove them.
Keep a large towel in the trunk to lay down on ground,,,to remove sensors. I'll show you more in three weeks!

If your tranny goes into limp mode (stuck in 2nd gear),,,,engine light comes on but the speedo still works - failure of input tranny sensor

If your tranny goes into limp mode,,,, engine light comes on and the speedo doesn't work - failure of the output tranny sensor
