Has anyone had to replace an inner tie rod before; and if so, was it a pain or fairly easy?

By inner tie rod, what are you talking about? I may have a match for you. But if it was damaged from dealer failure to perform the recall on the new arm when installing, get the whole rack new at dealer expense.

The inner tie rod extends from the bellows at the ends of the rack. The one on the drivers side has play in it. I've been searching for just the inner tie rod but it appears that I'll have to buy the whole rack.

The inner part just screws into the rack. There is no part to create play. It's either loose or the rack is the problem. Anyone with a chrome front end had to remove this part for chroming. Pull the boot away and hold the ball joint end behind the boot with channel locks and then you can unscrew the rod. Check with Gary Empfield for details. gary@prowlerproducts.com

There is a replacement part from another vehicle out there that will work. I'll have to see if I can find my info on what it's from. If you want the one from a Prowler, you will have to buy the whole rack.

I've been trying to avoid the dealer cost. ($1300+) Tomorrow I'll pull the boot and take a closer look to see if it's the Tie rod or the rack. I did find a re-manufactured rack from Rack&Pinion Warehouse for 179 + Core.

I had my driver side inner tie rod replaced back in Aug 09 ...
It was rough trying to find just the inner tie rod since it shows that you have to replace the whole steering rack .
However Don Ward ( 832) 717 - 4977),was able to find a part to fit and so far so good .
Here is the info ... Mopar Steering Tie Rod part # MR519046
This part came from an 01 - 05 2 door Stratus
Cost for part $72.20
Good Luck .... ~ Sugar ~

{Oops I've corrected the Phone #} Thanks Mickey !

Also the inner tie rod will be a different color than the original rod ...Its lighter in color

I might be wrong, sugar, but I show Don's number you listed was his fax number. I show his shop number to be 832-717-4977. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the info. I thought I had that, but couldn't find it anywhere.
