I've had a problem that has recently started happing to my '97. Every time I start the car the gas and oil gauges will jump repeatedly, and the odometer and gear indicators will blink. This may happen for a minute or 2 then start working normally. When it first started happening I noticed that if I turned the headlights on while the gauges were going crazy they'd start working normally. However, that trick doesn't work any longer. Here are a couple of videos of the problem: Has anybody see this issue before? |

Haven't experienced that issue myself, but based on the thread title, thought I might be interested in buying the video! |

Make sure you check all your grounds. On the engine & also at the frame. Just to test , put a jumper cable from the negitive side of the battery directly to the engine . See if it makes a difference. |

I couldn't view those clips and had to download them. Then couldn't view them on my players. I tried movie maker and windows media. I'm thinking quicktime might play them but I don't have that and not sure I can get it on the work computer. Based on your description, I would say it resembles a problem spoons has been working on for a while now. (I also have a similar intermitant problem.) Spoons found his issue to be the no longer available chip in the dash. I sure wish I could see your clips. Does it only do it when you start up? |

Yep, it only does it when the vehicle is started. After a couple of minutes everything is fine. I just went to lunch and everything worked ok, the car had been sitting out in the sun. It's almost like it only does it when the car is cold. I'll have to keep notes on temperature and see if that is related. Sorry about the videos, I didn't post them in a playble location. If I have time this evening I'll convert them to a different format and make them a smaller. |
