Catfish, I was somewhat surprised too. But that is the only thing that was abnormal on the guages, and the light never came back on after 200 miles that day. And the voltage was under 14 volts, about 13.5 volts the rest of the day. So I would suggest that if the alternator "overcharges" because of a dead battery, it will trip the check guage light as well. And it was not a "check engine" light, it was a "check guage" light that was triggered.

So you can, in fact, get an alternator from the dealer now?

Ed, I got a reman from the dealer about two years ago. They said a new one was not available.

My check guage came on not to long ago and it was because my terminal was loose. I tighten the terminal, light went out.

Check engine light will come on as the voltage drops & sensors start to send bad signals due to low voltage.
