My starter is working intermittently; ie, sometimes it spins the engine and other times it just click, click, click like the solenoid is going bad. The battery is new and terminals/connection clean and tight but has not solved the issue. Today I got under the car to do some wrenching. Got the bolts and wires removed and the starter is loose. BUT! I cannot remove the starter from the car. I cannot find that secret passage from the frame/exhaust. Does anyone have a step by step instruction on how to turn/twist the starter to free it from the car? And step-by-step how to insert the new starter? Major frustration. Thx. |

Forgot to mention - I notice a bit of grease in the ignition wire clip. Tried my best to clean it out given the limited working space. Not certain if it is dielectric in nature. Would this degrade starting as well? |

In most cases, when you do something once, the second time is a lot simpler. With the starter, I seriously doubt it. I was shocked when I finally got mine removed but I never came close to getting it back in. My oldest son did it for me. |

It will come out. I didnt believe it but enough determination nd you will get it. The good thing is if you drop it its unlikely to just fall on you. Once that stud was off I remember getting the starter to slip around so back is front and front is back and the best way to describe it is with a little lift on the exhaust you have to tumble it out. |

You can loosen up the exhaust manifold clamp and that will give you a little more wiggle room. Spin your hat around backwards and hold your tongue out and to the left when attempting to remove. |
