Bob Wilson aka Enduro is making a run Saturday to the Dells to check out the 2 resorts and a couple of attractions along with locating a Chrysler Dealer that we can work with on the event dates if someone has an emergency repair they need done. Thanks Bob ( Enduro ) we are now 1 step closer. ------------------ |

Keep Bryden Motors in Beloit in mind, although about an hour away, they are supporting us through parts discounts equal to or better than anyone else across the country. You may want to contact MArc and see what can be done?? Just a thought. |

You are right Ray support those that support us. Would you like to contact them? also on one of the cruise routes see if they would want us to all pull in? Maybe they would be willing to searve us up some lunch? I do not know how large their used car lot is but it would be a great picture for the dealership to have rows of Prowlers on their For Sale Lot. ------------------ This message has been edited by Bob Goetz on 09-30-2004 at 04:07 PM |

I am working with Bryden Motors on some level of participation ... either as an "Event" co-sponsor or one of the daily "Crusie" sponsors. What exactly that may mean will have to unfold through my conversations with them but I will keep you posted. |

Ok everyone Bob Wilson went to the Dells this weekend to check out the main & overflow resorts for us. The report back is Meadowbrook is very nice but has a few issues, I will take them up with the managers to see if they can be worked out. Only 1/2 the cabins at Birchwood are new the rest are old and we know what that means. Bob also checked out the AmericInn this is a cheaper alternative and a Newer hotel. Located right off the highway for easy in and out of town but we give up being secluded and by ourselves. Bob also checked out a cruise route and site seeing day to the Mount Horeb ( hope I spelled it right) area, it is a small town with several small cafes to eat at and shops to explore, just out side of town is a cave tour that last's about an hour and cost $9.00 a head as a group. In talking with Bob we can leave the Dells area around 10 AM take a scenic route for a couple of hours to get there have a 1 1/2 to 2 hour stop for lunch and shopping then head to the caves and take a longer northern route back arriving around 6 PM. So I guess I am asking would you rather stay at resort for more money and have the run of the place, or stay at a centrally located cookie cutter hotel that more than likely we would need to share. I will continue to look for alternatives but I like the resort idea even if we have to deal with a few things ( no close restaurant,Bar,Gas stations ) but this is a group outing not just me. Bob ( enduro ) Wilson do have anything to add? Thanks again for the pre-trip trip. ------------------ This message has been edited by Bob Goetz on 10-03-2004 at 03:38 PM |

Bob, it is kind of hard to give you an answer on the hotels without knowing the price range. If it is $40 a night compared to $ 250 a night the answer is probably different than if it is $ 59 v.$ 77. If you can get a ball park figure, I think that would help. Just my 2 cents. |

AmericInn is about $90, cabins & lodge I have not totally worked out with them yet but lodge rooms $120 to $140 and cabins $180 to $275 ( cabins are 2 and 3 bedrooms ). That standard answer i am getting is for a group they will discount 20% from internet rates. July is peak season so all rates are high. I am going to check towns on each side of the Dells exits ( 15 mile either direction )and see if savings are significant enough to drive down the road. I will be contacting the Dells Tourism office for suggestions from them on other lodges and if they have contacts for any local car clubs ( suggestions on driving routes). ------------------ |

At this point, I really don't have anything more to add. There are pros and cons to each location. Nothing that can't be worked out. I have a feeling that this group will have a good time no matter where we stay (within reason). It'll all work out. |

Personally can not afford upwards of $100/night given the amount of time we actually spend in a room ... and will have a little one along. I don't care if we are "taking over the place" or sharing it with others ... I am OK with not having an exclusive place. I might re-encourage you to check into Chula Vista if you want something that is a cross between a cookie cutter hotel and a resort though ... if the group is large enough, am certain a "deal" can be worked out. Just my opinion ... am working with Bryden Motors on a "cruise-in stop-over for one of the cruise days ... maybe good time to get an oil change, pick up some parts or whatever ... they are 5-Star and have two (2) Certified Prowler/Viper techs and are a participating POA supporter. |

OK here we go, let me know! Meadow Brook : Rates are high, Large Speed Bumps to cabins, may be to small with only 65 rooms and from what I understand 30 are singles the rest are 2 and 3 rooms ( $250 to $350 night ). I contacted Ho-Chunk, Howard Johnsons, Chula Vista. The only one to answer the phone was Howard Johnsons the others have not returned calls. Group Sales was very helpful and here are the details: Children under 18 stay free I know Howard Johnsons is not the Marriott or Hyatt but this looks like a reasonable priced place that can accommodate us that is clean and has easy access in and out of town along with several places with in walking distance to eat. The web site is www.antiquabay.com Thumbs up or down? Again the Dells is very busy in July so I would like to nail down the Hotel ASAP. ------------------ |

Like I said, just stayed there this past summer ... and yes, it is not a Hyatt or what was the place in MI for Dream Cruise, but the restaurant was fine, the pools are OK, the staff was very friendly, it IS central to restaurants, downtown area, go-karts, mini-golf, highway, etc ... and sounds like reasonable too for their peak season ... It would be nice to see what Chula Vista has to say or some other place similiar for comparison, but ... I agree that you want to get things locked in for people to ba able to plan, Bob. I give it 1 1/2 thumbs up for all the reasons listed above ... and heck, they may be able to block a wing for our party ... would be similiar to having a place to ourselves then too ... just a thought. |

Bob...thanks for doing all the legwork! I would vote for the Howard Johnson's as long as it is clean...how much time do you really spend in the room anyway....not much! The money we save on hotel costs we can spend on Prowler mods! |

Plan B possibility? CHange the 'central headquarters' to be Fond du Lac? 2) central to "Other" entertainment besides the dells, including, but not limited to... the activities Bob posted, casino, music, 'poker run' etc, could all be done from here...
4) Local dealership would LOVE to have us there... would probably do a live remote radio broadcast, and other 'sponsorship' things as it got closer... might be able to start one of our 'runs' from that location.... 5) A 'cruise boat dinner on the lake' is available at Lake Winnebago... for any aviation buffs, the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) event starts the following Monday... at Oshkosh... 20 mins north.
When you consider 4-5 nights stay for an event, this could mean the difference in $200/week vs $750...... Let me know................. IF this is a deciding factor THEN I will do the 'legwork' on other events/places to see/go things in this area.
