Jerry - I think we plan to have wives fly into Miami on Saturday evening or late afternoon June 11, stay in Miami area Saturday nightr and drive to Key West on Sunday. We will take them back to Miami airport either late Thursday or early Friday and start our drives back home.

Here we go... expecting 150 Florida Kat Pack Prowlers to join the LONG HAULERS for this final leg of the 2005 Hot Rod Power Tour, Tallahassee to Orlando (Kissimmee) so make your lodging plans NOW. The map below illustrates the many (11) lodging options near I-10, Exit 199, Monroe Street. This may be the easiest and best area for the Prowlers to congregate the afternoon and evening before we head out for Orlando (Kissimmee) the next morning, the last day of the 2005 Hot Rod Power Tour.

As there is NO OFFICIAL Prowler lodging site, any of these area establishments will put you near, if not right in the middle, of the action.

Expecting 150+ Prowlers... THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of other Hot Rods, so make your plans now. Don't wait till next year and say... "I wish I had done that"!!!

We are looking forward to seeing y'all there,
Jay

Do you remember this?
It is the 1996 Hot Rod Power Tour, led by all things a Plymouth Prowler!!!
Sorry for the picture quality, but it was scanned from 2 pages of a September 1996 Hot Rod Magazine... REMEMBER?

This "feature" article stated...
"September 1996... Nine days and 2,900 miles of tire smoke was how Hot Rod staffers described the 1996 Hot Rod Power Tour. Leading the pack out of Los Angeles all the way to Mt. Clements, Michigan, was Plymouth's new Prowler - a suitable debut for the new aluminum bodied, V6 powered Production Rod. Alongside the Prowler was Dan Jacobs' Tory Trepanier-build 1939 Chevy, Predator, which drove all the way from LA to Detroit and back to Manteno, Illinois."

That was then... this is now and the Automotive Press continues to simply ignore the Prowler as a "rod"... what happened... why did the Prowler fall from the graces as a "rod" with the Automotive Press???

Prowler's fall from grace with the Automotive Press perpetuated most Hot~Street Rod sanctioning bodies eliminating this most deserving "rod" from participating in their events too.

This is our year... this is our opportunity. We need you... we need every Prowler Owner's cooperation regardless of where you live... we need your support and most of all, we need your Kat to join us in Tallahassee, Fl for the final leg of the 2005 Hot Rod Power Tour to Orlando (Kississmme) FL. We need 150+ Prowlers (wish we could get a thousand) to re-introduce our beloved Kats to the Automotive Press. With such a concentration (hundreds ~ thousands) of Prowlers, it will be impossible for the press to ignore us... our presence... our enthusiasm and one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced will be there in large quantities... to make a "rodding" statement!

Come join us... help us re-capture our place in the "rodding" community once and for all. With you we can do it... without everyone's participation we may just fade away and be overtaken by the Rice Rockets as their organized efforts are paying dividends, continuing to gain strength with the press.

We as individuals are "Hot~Street Rodders"... our beloved Prowlers are a "rod" regardless of the VIN, so come help us demonstrate to the automotive world just how special your Prowler is.

We will see y'all there... Prowlin' into the Hot Rod History Books.

Sincerely, Jay

For the guys who have done the Power Tour in the past, how are the Prowlers received by the other car owners? I don't feel like we are very well accepted by some of the other local owners and judges at local car shows. The public seems to like the cars but some of the judges and hot rod owners seem to resent us or shun us. What does everyone else think?

Ed,
Good question.

I ran both the 1999 and 2000 Power Tours and the reception was pretty cold at times but I also met quite a few nice people.

During the 99 tour, the Prowlers were new and a real novelty. Chrysler had sponsored the tour the previous year and had chosen not to sponsor it for 1999 so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.
Not everyone wanted to see the Prowlers on the tour but most people were pretty accepting. The few that resented the Prowlers made their feelings pretty clear. There were only 2 of us that made the long haul that year. I had a great time but I also tried to keep from pushing myself on them. I made a special effort to talk to and run with quite a few of the more popular hot rods to be sure I was accepted.

During the 2000 tour many more people had seen Prowlers and there were a few more making the run. I would say that most of the local guys were more friendly than the long haulers since most had never seen a Prowler in person. The long haulers are more of a hard core group than the locals so I would assume that things will remain the same for this years tour.

I would suggest the Prowler group try be discreet when joining the Power Tour. With the large number of POA cars expected, I would caution everyone to expect some resentment from some of the hot rod people on the tour.

Another thought.

When Yeller Cat organized the Turkey Run last year, were there any problems or resentment from the hot rod guys?
I would expect the Power Tour to be about the same if a small group attended.

If a very large group of Prowlers shows up for the Power Tour, your guess is as good as mine.

I did part of the power tour in 2001 and I would agree with Larry Lord.

It isn't just the power tour it is most places you take the car with Hot Rodders.

They think they are new cars and do not belong.

Now for those going the LONG HAUL. There will be plenty of Modified cars that they should get some respect.

It might be a good idea to have estimate number of cars at each stop and contact them in advance if everyone wants to be together. I know mopar muscle will have a group of MOPARS and they try to keep them together. You might be able to join in with them, but THEY ARE NOT PROWLER PEOPLE EITHER. (One of their photographers likes the Prowlers and in 2000 at the Mopar Nationals did a photo shoot of my car. My guess they made file 13 as soon as he presented the pictures.)

If at the final stop there are over 100 cats they might want to know this in advance

I hope to be driving my Dart for the section of the tour I take this year. The shake down run should be completed and have working brake lights.......LOL.......one thing I have to check into. Even thought you guys will be driving prowlers, I'LL TALK TO YOU

Y'all have been there... done that... experienced the "negative" comments and "cool" reception regarding the Prowler as a "rod" during many "organized" automotive events. My personal opinion is that these disapproving emotions are jealousy driven, further supported by peer pressure from the rodding establishment.

I continue to defend myself as a "Hot Rodder" which has absolutely nothing to do with the kind of car I have... it is my "Hot Rodding" spirit... my creativity... my lust for something outstanding... my passion for automobiles that drives me and I drive a Prowler by choice.

Oh yes, that 7~70 Warranty may make other "rodders" envious as well.

Always remember the Prowler's day will eventually come... for those organizations that have excluded the Prowlers based on the "25 year old" rule, get ready as the year 2020 is just around the corner... I think Florida will still let me drive then!!!

If so, I will see y'all there, Jay

If everyone wants I know a bunch of the Hot Rod Staff people and I can give them a heads up,

Also I am working on getting placement in some retailers for a Power Tour DVD, if I get a commitment the event will be filmed for DVD and Cable. I have offered with the approval of a few long haulers that have open seats to carry camera guys from time to time if you are going on the the whole tour or just certain legs and have an open seat please PM me the info and I will let them know the support we as a club can give them. I think that showing up in numbers they cannot ignore us. also a stated in another response we will have some modified Kats in the mix, I personally am trying to pull off as much as my wallet will let me ( got to sell more stuff ).

When running the Power Tour I feel we need to present ourselves as a CAR ENTHUSIAST CLUB not just a Prowler Group, many of us have multiple cars or have a real car passion and I think if asked we should make that known. I myself am guilty of taking offense to some comments about the car and have attacked back, I will try VERY VERY hard not to do this but rather get the public to know the kind GREAT PEOPLE that belong to this group and the car is just what brought us together.

(limited to two weeks in 'prime time' and already had taken one of those for the Dells.. and the other my anniversary week...priorities in life!)...

I like others tried the local Hot Hod cruises and shows. Not the best of receptions from them but great responses from the crowd. I had a rodder walk up to me and say "I never did like that Plymouth" and moved his car. Oh Well.
Bob or Marty, the question was never answered about if you are not a long hauler. Does everyone pay the $55 entry fee? If so, how are those treated in the smaller runs? Can they park in the same area? Not being cheap I will send in the money but still question the above since I am not a long hauler.

If you are going to 2 or more stops it is worth paying the $55. The goody bag was worth it for me a few years ago. PLUS there are special stops that only the long haulers get invited to do, your pass shows you as long hauler wether you do it all or not.

I don't remember what all was in the goody bag but the clock is on the wall in my computer room.

For the many, many of you that have XM Satellite Radio installed in your Kats, you are most likely familiar with one of the XM personalities, Matt the Cat on Channel 5, The FIFTIES.

For those that are familiar with this awesome channel, you know that Matt the Cat hosts the incredible "Nite Prowl Show" as he goes Prowlin' thru the Back Alleys of Rock 'n Roll, playing all those memorable and enjoyable 50s hits.

What would be more fitting than to have Matt the Cat join us and do some Prowlin' during the Hot Rod Power Tour?

Rather than his usual Prowlin' the Back Alleys, he can go Prowlin' in Paradise and straight into the Hot Rod History Books with us.

On behalf of the Florida Kat Pack and the Prowler Owners who are participating in this incredible event, I have sent the "Official" invitation directly to Matt requesting that he join us for some Prowlin' in June. I will keep y'all posted.

If you are not familiar with the "Nite Prowl Show" check it out on XM Channel 5, 7:00 PM Eastern. He has other Prowlin' shows times as well... you will be glad you joined Matt the Cat for some GREAT 50s entertainment.

I sure hope he can join in our FUN, FUN, FUN as we go Prowlin' with the 2005 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Sincerely, Jay

These maps may give you a idea of lodging options... the first map in the most popular Orlando area, International Drive... the second map is Kissimmee's most popular area.

These maps are not to scale, but if you print these out and take the top map's I-4 (blue line) and connect to the bottom map's I-4 (blue line) you can get an idea of the area layout and where all the major attractions, lodgings are. Kissimmee is South of Orlando.

Enjoy, Jay

Jay - I can see you are in full promotion mode now..

As far as paying the registration fee to Power Tour, I can email Hot Rod and ask. I have never been on the PowerTour but would think as had been posted above that if you plan to make tow or more of the stops the registration fee would be worth it.

Oh - I almost forgot. There are always going to be people that like your particular type of vehicle and others that don't. I hear some people say if you have RadRods by Troy or Boyd Cottington or some other shop highend build your car, you are not a true hot rodder because you didn't do most of the work yourself.

I am sure we will have some people make rude comments and to me it just reflects their lack of class. People are entitled to their own opinions. I like my Prowler and that's what counts to me.

If you pay the registration fee to get a goodie bag as a long hauler, will the goodie bags be available at mid-point? In other words, If I start in Indy, but register as a long hauler, why would they have goodie bags in Indy? ALL the long haulers would be starting in Milwaukee.
Not a big deal, but that doesn't make sense to me.
