Sorry I haven't posted any updates due to working out of town most of last three months. Talked with several hotels today - it seems that the largest hotel in Boerne is only 78 rooms but there are two of them that size about a mile apart - both nice, Hampton Inn and a Fairfield Inn. They only want to commit 50 rooms to a room block each for us. Before I rule out splitting rooms between 2 hotels I am waiting on responses with room rates and hotel info from both. That area should be best for location to headquarter the event based on planned activities but the San Marcos area could also work except the one, really scenic drive/cruise through the Hill Country will become an all day activity as that location adds at least an hour each way to the cruise. That location will work great for the rest of the plans. Dates are looking like May 19-25 to avoid Mother's Day as the arrival day if the event was to be held the week earlier. Ending on Memorial Day weekend would give people with long drives an extra traevl day but of course ties up a holiday weekend. Deciding factor will be hotel choice/rates/availability. |

Looks like we may bring the event headquarters back in closer to San Antonio. As much as I wanted to avoid the extra traffic, the hotel situation may be better in SA - looking to stay on far North side either North Central or Northwest - waiting on 2 hotel proposals. On a good news/bad news note, one of my pieces of business cancelled their event for Spring 2013 so now my schedule has opened up in early April. I have asked the hotels which sets of dates work out best for them. They now have 4 weeks to choose from. 1st half of April offers cooler temps - upper 70's and 80's for highs vs upper 80's/low 90's in mid May but it's too cold to float/tube any of the rivers in April(but unlike me, I doubt many may even want to do that.) I leave town for month long business trip on June 24 so hope to have this wrapped up by then and will keep this updated.

Mid April to early May is also bluebonnet season in Texas and the hill country area usually has a good showing. |

4 minutes of a 4 hour cruise on The 3 Sisters or Twisted Sisters in the Texas Hill Country: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru1bw17wvvI Thought we had a deal with a hotel but they did not address several issues in their proposal they submitted so we are driving this weekend to Kerrville Texas to check out a property to host the event and hopefully will make a decision on hotel by Monday. The Route 337, 336, 335 loop is considered by many to be the best cruising roads in all of Texas. They have unfortunately had 10 motorcycle deaths in last 2 years but have stepped up patroling the area and have posted signs to out try to outdrive your own ability. http://www.hillcountrycruising.com/vanderpool.html Check out the video on this page and the link below it for more: |

One of the guys at the office said his motorcycle group took that tour last year and they had a blast. He did say that there was a wreck and a lot of police presence there due to all the car and bike clubs. He recommended it though. |

7 and 1/2 hours, 235 miles, 3/4 tank of gas, Mexican Restaurant for lunch and we're back. We drove the backroads the entire way - many miles of whcih will part parts of our cruises. There is some great scenery, hills, rivers, valley views. We saw lots of motorcycles out today -even in the 100 degree heat. We did NOT drive the "3 Sisters" loop but did cruise the roads leading to and from the 100 mile loop. Roads varied from long sweeping turns to 10 and 15 MPH mountain type hairpin turns. The hotel will be a great place for us to stay during the event. They have hosted several other car club events including a coule on an annual basis. They are offering $89 a night rates plus state and city tax incudling a full continental breakfast/ There is a mini fridge, microwave, iron/ironing borard, coffee maker in each room. Free highspeed wireless is part of our package as well. There are three olympic size pools - one in courtyard, one on banks of the river at rear of property and an indoor in in the fitnedss center. Kiddie pool in coutyard as well. Full servie restaurant and a tavern/nightclub also. I need to get hotel to drop the attrition clause - if we don't book at least 80 percent of the room block, someone (me) will have to pay for the difference. THat means is we block 75 rooms and only book 50 - we have have pay $89 a night for 10 rooms (75 times 80% is 60 rooms) or $890 for 6 nights. If they don't drop that clause we will have to look elsewhere. I plan to negoiate with them Monday and hopefully can finally get this settled. Dates they have avaible are Sunday May 19 - Saturday May 25, 2013. This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 07-21-2012 at 08:45 PM |

When I hosted the Tuslarama event it was the hotels attrition clause that concerned me the most. Fortunately it worked out OK but I could heve been stuck for a lot of money. I was not able to get them to eliminate the clause entirely but they did alter it. |
